Ok, we've seen this rig before and I've taken everyone's recommendations carefully and I'm still skeptical but am in the process of checking to make sure all is real and legit, but like I told you fellas and what was recommended (by Ben anyways), I bid a max bid of $4500. The bid ended at $9k plus and I receive an email today for a second chance offer if you guys know what that means on ebay; in this case, the guy is willing to accept my offer.

Seems a little fishy, but I figured for that price, and $1000-1500 to get it home, another $4-5k into it over time and it can be similar in quality to my rig......not exactly, but close enough.

Anyways, it seems fishy, I have contacted the seller....who knows. Maybe he's desparate......ALL of the bidders above me were very low feedback ratings, so maybe he thought mine was the only legitamate bid with such a high rating.

I like this rig....I think it has potential to be a good pass down heirloom.

What say you fellas? smilieFordlogo

Ken, if you are willing to accept the truck for what it is, then you can buy it.

I would agree with your concerns on the truck, and the other bidders on the truck. As I said before, why did the truck not sell the first time with a no reserve auction of $8000? I have some serious reservations about the reason for that, but I will keep them to myself.

I would take a mechanic with you who knows these trucks and verify things like the lift.

I personally feel that you could do much better, since you have a few years yet. JMHO. But it is your choice and your money.

My opinion, if you really like the truck and it meets your needs then 5 K is a okay price.

I look at modifications as not adding value to anything, if you don't like the amount of lift or the tires and rims Etc, it will actually take value away from a personal standpoint.
I don't know what your plans are after purchase, but if you plan on changing allot on it i say let it go.

We do have time on our hands, that's for sure......if the economy stays in its strangled hold, then we should have no problem finding decent rigs for this kind of money, but if things ever pick up, we're concerned about way overpaying in the next couple of years.

We don't want to wait 10 years.....a 70's truck in great condition in the 2020's, I think, will be pretty pricey!

We wouldn't change much.....any upgrades would be in things like bed liner, some chrome upgrades in the engine and interior, stereo, tonneau cover, things like that. We want a lift similar to the one we have in our red 77.

He advertises the engine as a 390, but the vin tag says it is a 360. This is a common misconception. He doesn't say the engine was replaced.

So, maybe he's wrong with the engine size, or was it replaced?

Not my taste, but not too bad either. Be careful though... That's a lot of money and effort...

Yup, understood, thanks!smilieFordlogo

Ken..imho its a pretty decent truck for 5k.With that said here are some of the things my trained eye has caught...The lift, the rear to me appears to have the stock leaf springs lifted by the use of stacked blocks...yes this will work but he should have changed out the springs for lift units and one block on each side..front coils were changed..the underside looks pretty decent and dry..i dont see signs of oil leaks under the engine and what i can see of the trans..drivetrain looks good and appears original under the hood..i see where pollution devices were caped off and plugged off usually a sign of original motor...this all can be cleaned up affordably..along with the cosmetics..I like it but as always skeptisim is a good thing...Ask all your concerns till your comfortable.i think its a pretty decent rig and with a few bucks thrown into it,can be even better...Good luck!!

Unless there is something major wrong, I didn't think I could go too wrong for $4500.....I haven't heard back from him and I might give him a call later on today......he puts his number out there in large font on the ad, so.....

Listen to that gut feeling. It's there for a reason. Ask the guy why it didn't sell the other times.

I hear ya Mark.....I'm working on getting alot of these questions answered.

Thanks!smilieFordlogo

Ken...if you were buying this to be a toy, I'd say go for it. I don't feel $4500 for that truck is a bad price. But since I know your intentions of this rig being an heirloom and you want the quality of your 77...I say pass. We've picked that truck apart...there's been major hesitations throughout...there's a reason for that. Personally, I feel the vehicle picks you...not the other way around. The transaction should be and feel seamless, you'll know the right truck when you see it. I still feel there are a ton of good trucks out there in 5-10k range that offer more than this truck. Not to mention, you have more than a decade on your side, don't pull an Austin (just kidding Austin) just because you have cash burning a hole in your pocket. Personally, I feel that truck would drive you nuts...you'd keep finding things that just aren't right and the couple grand that you think you'd spend to make it right, is just scratching the surface.

A lot of 360 engines can become 390 engines when put up for sale. :suspicious: Just like the 351M/400, the only differences are internal, so without taking a look at the engine, you can't tell the difference.

Have you talked to this guy in person? ask him all these questions!

I love this truck, looks awesome but you can never trust a second chance offer!!

I'm going to try and call him.....I have a feeling he send the second chance offer to everyone on the bidding list and the highest one that comes back will take it. I emailed him last night and said I have cash and need to clarify some issues first and haven't heard back.

So, I think you've pretty much summed it up Ben and like all the other fellas, appreciate the honesty. A part of me wanted this as a daily driver for ME (and was going to pull an "Austin"), but thought it might be good enough to pass down to baby #2 on his way........BUT deep down, I know that a few thousand here and there won't be enough and I'll be back on the shopping block.

I absolutely love my Bronco as my winter daily driver and family driver when I'm not running around in my dent in the summer, but it's no dent!!!

I know you say I can get better Ben, but I haven't come across anything decent in that range the last year or so since I've been seriously looking....so now that I say it, it sounds like a short time.....should be able to find something nice in the next 2-8 years, 10 max if the economy continues to stagnate! :headbang:

^^^Honestly...if you just wanted a driver...I'd go with that Brown Lariat you posted. One helluva driver, good price...and I think when it came time to pass down, throw some powder coat on the frame and axles, tidy up the engine bay and shoot with paint...I think you could have what you're looking for for less than 10k.

Yeah, that Lariat sold for $8401.....the only things I weren't crazy about was that I wanted more lift and not crazy about the brown. It had everything else I was looking for. I did notice the second time I looked at it that there was a ton of wiring in the engine bay that looked more than normal.....so maybe a patch job?

Ken...this is what I'm talking about (compliments of JoeM in the dentside thread):

http://mankato.craigslist.org/cto/3679059446.html

5k for that truck is a good deal all day long. Outside of you not liking brown...tell me what's not to like about that truck??? Maybe it's just my area (so start searching this state)...but I see those trucks all day long.
