previous owner itnition switch wiring woes

hey guys, I've acquired a 1977 f100 with a 302... long story short, the previous owner butchered the wiring to the ignition switch, and then left it apart so that I am now on a quest to get the truck firing properly. I've put what appear to be the proper wires together, and I receive current to the coil, but the car only starts until I stop cranking it and then it dies. The wires to the entire ignition switch have been cut, as well as four wires that go to a plug to the left of the steering column. Any advice on where to start on fixing this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time

I've decided to simply run new wires for the ignition. Is it necessary to put a resistor on the wire leading to the icm and if so what should it be rated?

I can provide photos and illustrations for you to put it back original.

Ford ignition system runs on 7-9 volts to the coil.
12 volts for more than a short while will burn the coil up.

There is a 46" length of resistance wire located in the main wiring harness behind the dash.
this wire reduces voltage to the coil to 7-9 volts.
What info would you also like now knowing what I just told you?

Can you post a pic of the botched wiring so I can see it?

There are two wires for power to the DS II module, one is for start, one is for run. You apparently are not getting power to the run circuit of the module. This would be the 2 wire plug on the module.

Because he hasn't told or shown me what the issue is.

I'd say the diagram is a good place to start :)..and his first post decribed the problem

To the OP.
Some people make the mistake of putting the wire that goes to the I terminal onto the S terminal.

It causes ignition to work with key in start but not RUN when letting go of the key in run.
