ok guys.. the trucks still having issues past 2 weeks...

i cant get it to run or idle.... great fuel pressure, spark air everything.. fresh tuneup.

when i fire it up it lots of times will blow black smoke like it's running real rich..

then others it wont fire at all..

then today tinkering with it, i fire it up and it actually idles.. take it for a drive, keeps sputtering like it wants to die..

i'm so lost on it..

im leaning towards ECU.. but not 100% sure...

Run some seafoam through it and see what happens.

Maybe a long shot...but on a couple of my Bronco's, when the cats got clogged, it would throw black 'smoke' like a diesel, have troubles starting and run like absolute ****. Dunno if those symptoms make any sense, but it might be worth taking a look.

did you check to see if the plugs are fouled with fuel, there is a coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing that are prone to going, they tell the ecm it 40 below and it dumps fuel, you can`t burn that much fuel and it bogs down, hope this helps as I`ve replaced lots of these with the same issues.

That does make sense, I have seen such before. It would run ok when romping on it, but crap at idle. Also explains the intermittent behavior. Another thought is a failing injector. You should be able to find that also by looking at the plugs. A plugged cat will typically idle ok, but choke out when trying to get it down the road.

Coolant temp sensor does sound plausible. I`ve run into it to. I think you need to get to a shop that has a scanner capable of reading the data stream, versus just giving you codes.

Pay close attention to the plug as well, if it is cracked up at the plug, a pigtail will be needed.

the key to determing the coolant sensor is the state of the plugs, if they keep loading them up with fuel, black soot will be seen all around the base, the will sometime work intermittenly, but you won`t burn all the soot off, don`t buy the nylons ones, they don`t last, ford sell the best ones and last for years,
