Picking up my 6BT Cummins tomorrow!!!

That's right! STOCK AIN'T DOC! Got a hell of a deal on it, so the teardown and build will begin shortly. Building a mild 450hp Twin turbo Cummins to transplant into my '06 F-350! Best part is, it came out of a Ford school bus and all the data plates are marked with the Ford logo!

Expect to have to at minimum change the oil pan and sump. I forget now the issues that came from bus motors for conversions, but that sticks out to me. I think the accessory drive for the vacuum pump/power steering pump might cause trouble with the frame, so be aware of that.

How much you doing yourself? When looking for conversion pieces, check out destroked.com. I haven't used what they sell, but I like what I see there.

a weekend. maybe two. this is a third vehicle for me, so if it is down for a while it is really no big deal.

Besides to "fix" the 6.0 would cost about 10K to do it right.

To do this converision I will have approx. 5K in it.

Significant grinding is necessary on the transmission bellhousing for starter clearance, enough to make a small hole through the side of the transmission bell housing. This does not adversely effect the structural strength of the transmission.

- Minimal and insignificant grinding of the Cummins engine block is required, but this does not ruin the Cummins engine block core value.

This is my issue with the fordcummins plates, and is not needed with the destroked plate. I like that the starter is on the opposite side from the exhaust, but not hacking out a big part of the bell housing.I highly recommend looking around a bit before settling with this plate. Destroked also will advise you on issues. I used to be part of the now defunct Cummins-conversion.com and learned a lot from the others who did this. Autoworld of Montana does the conversions regularly. The story given is that the originator of fordcummins worked for them and then went off to do his own after a tiff, but didn't hold to the higher level they had in their shop. How the truth is, not sure.Either way, I know that significant typically = hole. many of the conversions done using the fordcummins plate took the side clean out of the trans bell. If you want to twin it, then that should be a big red flag for you.

Unlike other adapter plates, the Destroked unit doesn't require you to relieve your transmission** which will void any warranty or cause problems with future service issues

I may end up making A LOT of my own parts, but do like the fact that their adapter plate is cut free. Like I said I have plenty of time to do the research and do this right.

Talked with Destroked today. Super nice guys out there, gave me the run down on what I will need/want to buy for this conversion, talked with my friends over at Haisley Machine as well and may have to do some research on the P7100 that is on there to make sure that it is or is not an industrial pump with different linkage for the throttle. Also talked me into a stock HX35 turbo for the 400hp build as it is the MOST reliable turbo out there for that application. Also a custom fuel plate that they make for the most torque.

Really looking forward to this build.
