ok guys.. i'm pretty much out of guesses.. first off.

last monday fuel pump went out... so i changed it out and got it fully running finally friday night..... saturday took it out to go see a mustang to possibly trade for.. truck died again... though was fuel filter was plugged up..

today i changed the fuel pump... still died...

truck will sit there perfectly fine idling... slow speeds will run great. any kind of change in angle of truck either getting on throttle hard or braking hard or turning the truck dies... and cant hardly get restarted.

thinking the float in the carb is bad...

whats my best route. I am not rebuilding the carb myself.. just not gonna do it. dont want to. should i get somewhere to rebuild it? or should i just get a remanned 2bbl holley?

i gotta agree with smokey. the 2 brl ford carb are easy & quick to rebuild the critical part is getting them clean & making sure the castings are not pitted. kits are affordable but the float is sometimes not included. they can be purchased seperatly.

Just rebuild it. Mine took like 20 minutes to do when I had it apart. Not many parts in there.

Time for a carb rebuild. That said, you pulled the air cleaner off yet, bumped the throttle and see what's going on with the fuel situation? Actually seeing what's happening can do alot. It sounds like at this point, you're throwing parts at the truck, ie filter and pump, and now assuming it's a float issue without actually diagnosing the problem. Maybe it is the carb, but maybe you have fuel line collapsing on itself, maybe you have some serious vacuum leaks, maybe you have garbage in the tank, maybe you're suffering from fuel boil, maybe you're timing is too far advanced, maybe you have a cam eccentric issue, etc. All of these issues could cause similar symptoms.

brand new fuel line maybe you have some serious vacuum leaks was first thing i checked with spray bottle aint many vac lines left lol..., none maybe you have garbage in the tank, previous owner clean out tanks just before i got it maybe you're suffering from fuel boil same fuel setup i've had since had the truck, maybe you're timing is too far advanced 10* btdc, maybe you have a cam eccentric issue no fuel pump pumps fine now, just cuts out when taking corners, not sure how the cam eccentric could cause that, etc. All of these issues could cause similar symptoms.

pump was needed... truck would not pump any fuel into carb, none.. nadda nothing... from either tank and both had half tank. replace pump prime carb, got it fired up sat and idled for 30 minutes to make sure no leaks. shut down.. go out next morning... fired up after 1 pump of the gas peddle... ran perfect till got on the road where it takes turns and theres a load on the truck. figured need a fuel filter anyways 3.50 part.. no biggie.

Do you have proof the previous owner cleaned the tanks out right before you bought it or did he just tell you that? Maybe he was trying to figure out the same problem you are now.

What was his reason for cleaning the tanks then. I don't know of anyone who just wakes up in the morning and does this unless there is some issue. Just because it just started doing it doesn't mean it hasn't before. How much of the line is rubber? Some people use too much rubber line because they are too lazy to bend metal line.

cause he dropped the tanks to replace the sending units, and then the sending units he had werent the correct ones so he just cleaned the tanks.

the line is only about 4-5 inches of rubber... coming from the hard line from the fuel pump..

So then my next question would be, why did he feel the need to swap out sending units???? And since he didn't, does that mean you inherited whatever problem he thought he had.

Hi Chris - couldn't find this last night but it popped up this morning - if you look on page six you will see that there is a small filter screen that can be easily blocked - it might be as simple as cleaning that out because that will also cause fuel starvation to the float chamber...... lol every time i used my old victa lawnmower i had to clean the line mesh cause one of the kids
"helped" by filling the petrol tank with crud.
