I have an oil leak somewhere (Too much on the block to pin point it) and the fan has spread the oil everywhere! It is on the suspension, crossmember, bottom of the alternator. This sucks. :headbang:

Relax...take a deep breath...it'll be ok. There are only so many places oil can come from. Check any loose bolts on the Valve Covers, then check for any loose bolts on the intake. Possible PCV valve problems. Next would be the snout...have you noticed any oil in your coolant or fuel? You'll also wanna check the oil sending unit.

Breathing... I think.

I checked the valve covers, they're spotless. Not the intake either. No oil in the fuel or coolant.

Front seal maybe?

Pfft. That's nothing. You oughta see the oil from a 6.0L Diesel when you put a hole in the block. They hold 15 QUARTS!! :)

BTW- Even in the new to me truck, I'm not allowed in the parking lot where we put her when she blew. :)

a leaky front seal will make a mess outa everything.

If it's none of the stuff I listed, this is where I'd go next.

HAHA...now that's funny. Got yourself a reputation, huh, Todd?

Saw a poor guy a few weeks back lined up at the truckwash in a dumptruck..N14 Cummins with a rod out of the block...40 quarts of black oil everywhere!

Actually, since the fan is spreading it, the front seal is where I would go first. If it is real clean right below it, that would be where it is coming out. I actually had the one on the 88 rip the seal clean out, never seen that one before... it was no wonder it went through quarts of oil in short distances... My sister wasn't astute enough to stop running it til I could get it fixed, of course, with my schedule as of late, that can be a while though..

I had to limp home a tractor that blew the rod out the side of the block, hitting the starter solenoid.... I had to tie the rod up so the crank didn't keep banging it against the starter cable... We just went and got a bunch of our used oil and kept dumping it in every so often so as to not make things worse. Crank was junk already anyway. I have a patch welded on the side of the block and rebuilt the motor, it is running fine today...

To clean it up before you work on the engine here is a tip. First run the truck (if you can!) to get it warm. then spray full strength Simple Green all over the engine. then hose it off with hot water if you can run a hose to your water heater relief/drain valve on it. Cold will work but not as well. You will be AMAZED at the result!
Good luck with the leak !

Well, I'm going to clean it up with vigor tonight. If it is the front seal, I'll be in business. Thanks for the cleaning tip.
