Hello ford truck fanatics , I have a 77' f150 ranger 351m 4 speed 4x4 short bed regular cab beast that I love , needs quite a bit of work but I'll post pics along the way , and I'll probably ask for advice too , my goal is to cure all the cancer and put in a 460 or maybe a cummins.

Welcome to FTF, quite a beastly looking truck, but I'd stay with the 351M for the engine, for they're a good reliable engine, I've owned two of them, one in a 77 F-350 Custom dually flat bed, and the second on in a 78 F-150 Ranger Lariat Trailer Special.

I'm still trying to decide if I want the 351 , it's smoking really bad going to tear it apart and see if I can fix it

You can build the M to be a good motor, you could swap in the 460 fairly easy, the Cummins weight and size make it a bit more of a challenge. It all depends what exactly you want the truck to do and what all you are willing to do to get there.

Right now I'm leaning to the 460 , cheaper than a Cummins and readily available , and it's bigger than what I have now lol

So how big can I go tire wise without a lift , 33s ..35s?

33's will NOT be a problem. Beyond that, I don't know.

You're welcome. The tires on the truck in my sig are 33's, but they are only 9.50 inches wide. I'd still be using that size but they are VERY hard to find.

I had 33s on my Bronco and I never had any problems in mud , got stuck in snow once but it was a deep ditch , lot deeper than I thought it was
