Drove my truck an hour and a half to see Trista last night and halfway through the trip I had to take a detour off the freeway. Hit a green light and started going again and BOOM!!! The shift from 1st to 2nd was HEAVY. No I'm talking talking 'shift kit' hard... I'm talking 'DID SOMEONE JUST REAR END ME' hard. And all the following shifts were equally as bad. Watched the trans temp gauge and it never got above 145* F.

Got there, parked it overnight, drove it home today -- STILL doing it when I left her apartment. Again, fluid all the home was a good temp, nothing to be alarmed about. Parked it for a few hours and drove it again tonight, still doing it and even worse than before. It's just SLAMMING into gear.

What causes extremely hard shifts like this? I have a feeling I might be in for a new trans soon...

yep- or shift module. Not a huge deal though. If the tranny were toast, the symptoms would be the opposite- real soft shifts followed by no shifts.

Speed sensor? But my speedometer is giving accurate readings, so how could the trans be getting false onse?

Shift module? What is that Ernie? The shifting is controlled by the PCM.

TC in lock up will cause it to shift hard........

Well, next thing I would do is scan for tranny codes.

By disabling the PCM's control of the TC could have caused a problem. Try
resetting the PCM (disconnect the negative battery cable, and touch it to the positive battery terminal for a sec.), leave your switch so the PCM controls the TC, and see what happens.

Good idea... I've heard that the PCM monitors the TCC to make sure that it locks up within a certain of time after it's supposed to.

Is your odometer and brake lights working? Blown fuse will cause those not to work which would give a false reading to the speed sensor

if one works the other works (unless both bulbs are out) there on the same circuit on purpose.. iva had that fuse blow a few times, makes it shift reallly weird, have to let off the gas for it to shift

Nah mine ain't doin that. The shifting patterns are normal -- but the shifts themselves are VERY jarring.

my daddy always told me the more you modify a vehicle the more problems you are going to have. But what fun is there in that? LOL

I thought my speedo was accurate until i past one of those "your speed is" contraptions

see i have the opposite problem wheni first get in the truck for the day it always falls out of gear leaving the doorms.

I somehow remember that fuse works the brake lights, cruise control, and interior lights- but not the guage cluster. I forgots the PCM controls the shift in that truck (duh!).

I'm pretty sure that at least the gauge cluster and brake lights are on the same fuse. That way if the brake lights don't work then the cluster doesn't work and vice versa.

Looks like you better find a ZF a little faster if this turns out to be a serious problem..

I've got GPS and was just comparing my speedo against the GPS speed reading the other day -- its the same as normal, about 2mph slower than actual speed.

I really don't think it's the lockup override switch. Chris is smart enough to know when his TC is locked and when it's not.

I'd pull the codes and see what the PCM says - obviously before you reset it. If that comes back clean, then you may be due for a trip to a good tranny shop.
