Key turns easy, radio and blower fan wont turn off. tore some of it apart. do I need to pull steering wheel to replace that silly rod and how do I do this. Also what about air bag. this is a 1996 F250
I'm not sure about the whole process, but make sure you get the battery unhooked and get the truck discharged before you go pulling that airbag. Why take a chance? I've had it torn down to the clockspring before and I didn't feel like taking a chance on busting my face on that gen 1 airbag.
just thought I'd let anybody know that runs into this same problem, I replaced the whole column; it was just as easy. A couple of issues : I have overdrive button on shifter; just change shifter. I have cruise buttons on steering wheel panel; Just change panel and may have to change the short wire harness from the clockspool "electrodes" to where it plugs in more toward the base of the column; have to pull steering wheel, I had to. Pretty simple job just make sure all connections are undone before removing the main nuts holding it in, especially the shift indicator cable.
