You've got to figure some one is sending their vehicle to the scrap yard
because.............?
And your buying the parts from the same type vehicle
because ................?

Agreed to a point. Some times you can find new or good parts in the jy here.

I keep mine going typically on used stuff, if a trans goes out, but the motor is good, some people just don't want to deal with it, or vice versa. I have seen plenty of good runners with the body falling off, and others that have good bodies, but the power train got blasted by some idiot. I have a bit of a collection going now, but it keeps the others going. My family typically stays with the same model lines so when one dies, it gets parked, and parts robbed off it to keep others going. Sad thing is, it seems more are dying lately than there is parts to support...

Did you try a TFI module?

I got the TFI Module last night and my son got it put on today,my truck seems to run better. I have no way to test drive it since the clutch is toast that is the next hurdle.

I know a few people that would carry spares with them for long hauls. The TFI initially was on the distributor, but later got moved to the fender, a cooler, less harsh environment. They mounted it there with a heat sink around it... Had one guy that broke down on the interstate years ago, and had run out of modules. It was nearly as bad as the DS II modules... I knew the after hours number for the local parts shop, got him a module and he was on his way. His was distributor mounted.

Any way to protect it from the heat of the TFI? My son didn't remove the dist he just took the old one off put the grease on the new one and bolted it back in.

The only way I know is see about finding one of the later models with the fender mounted unit and modify the wiring. I think the distributor is set up a little different as far as plugs go, but might be able to make a conversion from gutting out an old module for the plug, then hook up the fender mount to it. The big key is to be sure you get all of the grease on there, and cover as much territory as you can. Some people don't do so well with the grease. The grease is for heat transfer to the distributor base, but the base doesn't get rid of the heat as well as the module needs. Funny thing is, we just covered this kind of thing in my heat transfer class...

Thanks Roger, I will pick up a extra one or go to the JY and try to find a dist from a 92-96?

Not entirely sure when they changed, but that would be a fair guess. Myself, being the lazy person I can be, would probably just let it ride for now, and worry about it when it annoys me enough. If the opportunity were to present itself to grab the parts though, I'd be on it. Might wait until you know for sure it is the fix too.

Looks like 92 is right. I had one too, with the 460, but it probably went with the motor. Distributor wouldn't have helped, but the fender mounted module might have. Should take a look and see if it is still there, but I don't think so.
