In the early 80's, ford decided for better fuel mileage, they'd make differential ratios higher (numericly lower). My 81 f150 is a product of that thinking. 270 gears, 4 speed overdrive trans, result...........poor fuel mileage, plus no power. I'm anxiously waiting to see how well this works.

The bonus for those who frequently tow: Mr. Sherwood says there will be no decrease in capability. Super Dutys with 3.55 rear axles will still tow the same as earlier Job 1 and Job 2 3.73 equipped trucks.

I don't buy that. The math doesn't add up.

x amount of horsepower/torque x 3.73 at reasonable speeds > x amount of HP/Torque x 3.55

Assuming the truck still weighs the same...

Absolutely the trucks weigh the same,......but at what RPM's is maximum torque?
