ive always wondered y?

every morning when i leave home or when i leave work...or when my truck is untouched for an extended period of time...when i start it i have to hold it at 2000 rpm myself for a minute or 2 other wise if i just start it it revs to 3500 n dies..what causes this...can i fix it?

That's a carbed engine right? Proper starting procedure is once to the floor and turn the key, let the carb sit and warm up. Then once it's warm, you should push down 1/4-1/2 pedal to start it the rest of the day.

To elaborate on what Ben said, is when you hit the pedal to the floor and release it, on a cold engine, it sets the automatic choke. If that isn't happening, maybe your choke isn't functioning.
