I want to get a bed cover, what do you think of this?

I want to put a tonneau cover on my truck. I found this on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Roll...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
What do you guys think of this style of cover? Will the velcro hold up or will I see my cover flying away as I drive down the interstate.... Also, can these covers be installed if I have a drop-in bedliner?

Thanks

I'm not a fan of velcro and no matter how little you use it, over time, it will wear out. I have one that lifts up with shocks and is made from an aluminum frame.....but also comes off easy. I drove this rig cross country and this thing held up through 80 mph winds, rain, and what not.

I would stick with a solid frame that the entire thing lifts up and comes off easy, but that's my 2 cents.

I would like something like that, but I have not found anything for my 1994 model F150. Also, I don't want to spend too much money. I know that generally you get what you pay for so I'm a little afraid to spend money on something that might not work... Thanks for the advise

I'm not a fan of velcro or snaps/buttons. Those fiberglass covers are for sale all the time on CL for pretty cheap. I have one in the shed that used to be on my black truck. It was $450 new, and I see listings for them in the $100-150 range pretty regularly.

you, I'd get the fiberglass kind too, vinyl type wouldnt hold up that long. I think the kind that I'm talking about, you just get one for short or leg bed, I dnt believe it is brand specific.

I'll come back to this when I get home tonight, with pics and a link, but I've got a similar (if not the same) cover on my 2009 Ranger. Mine is a Lund Access Roll-up.

I'm pretty happy with it. I had a snap-type on on my '97 when I got it, and I HATED that thing. I wouldn't have one on a dare.

This one isn't perfect, but it's a good compromise for me. The velcro has held up well for the first year...it won't last forever, but the thing does have a lifetime warranty...and odds are that sooner or later I'll change how I use the truck enough to either want the tonneau gone, or a cap on it. Hard to say whether that'll happen before the velcro wears out or not.

Are they that inexpensive? I haven't found any that cheap when I was searching....not to mention paint matching.

I think if cost were a factor, an aluminum one with vinyl, like what I have will last years without going to crap on you, depending on use, and will be in the range you were looking at on the ebay auction.....mine looks awesome and has placed at every show it's been in with it on it....just saying it looks awesome as well. It just looks cool as it matches my vinyl top on my dent. I've always wanted to spend some money and put a fiberglass cover that was painted with the vinyl stuff to make it match....is on my list to do in the near future!

^^^To be honest, I dunno what going rate for a new one is. In my case, black was offered, so paint matching wasn't necessary, but in used condition, it's not uncommon to see them in the 100-150 range.

I'll try and post a link later. I have a folding vinyl cover and it works great. Easy to fold and easy to completely remove.

I'll try to post a picture of mine later as well. I have a roll-away type cover. Keeps 95% of the water out so it's not perfect, but it does well.

I'm not crazy about covers at all but if you need one, it's a great option.

Man, I don't know where you've been looking, but when I researched covers last year, the "unpainted or primered only" fiber glass covers were close to $1000 and I've never seen any used, except the ones that had wholes in them and have been sitting in someone's back yard for 10 years.....I want one in the worst way and if I found one within driving distance for under $200, I'm there!!!

I think they sell that stuff that rolls on like black vinyl to give it the appearance and would look awesome on my rig to match my top! Man, that's what I want!

Here is the one I have: http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/61A2056A0A0.aspx

So far no complaints from me. It only takes one person to fold, no bars to mess with, and can be totally removed by one person in minutes. It has two t-screw clamps on the front and two spring clamps on the back. I was a little worried at first that there wasn't enough to keep it held down but between the new truck and the old one it has been on for a year with no problems. Still looks like new too and I really haven't taken that good of care of it.

I've got a fiberglass tonneau and it works damn well, but I'm pretty sure it was over a grand like Ken said.

Here's the thread I started about mine: linky

I guess I need to go back and finish it.

*I see a lot of guys recommending hard tonneaus...I can't imagine putting one of them on a truck. They look better than caps, but aren't near as useful, and once either one you need a trailer to move half the stuff you bought a truck for in the first place. To each his own...but not on my trucks.

I agree with you on the limitations Ian...there have been times when I've needed more room...but for myself, it is fine for probably 90% of the time. That said, I am looking at a 22' Aluma trailer :D

Like Duncan said....depends on your use. If it's a daily work truck, then why the heck cover it with something nice....if it's a commuter or show truck, then put that baby on and take it off the 5-10% of the time you need to haul something. My 77 will never see a days work in it's life and a hard cover will be perfect for it. My Bump will never have a cover, hard or vinyl as it's bed will be used far more often then not.
