how to remove powersteering pump pulley

the damn thing wont come off with a puller.. the pully breaks when you put a allot of forse on it.. arg..


help... everyone says just use a puller and it will come of but not in my case !

Yeah you just need to use a puller and have some patience. They can be a real ***** to break loose. I pretty much destroyed Kragen's rented puller tool because it was so hard to get off. Try squirting some PB blaster around the pulley shaft.

do you have the metal pulley or the plastic pulley ? because mine keeps braking :S

i didnt have a problem when i did my pump. used the puller and it came off no problem. i used an all metal puller

The pulley? I'm fairly certain that mine is metal... I'm pretty sure if it were plastic then it would have broken LONG before it got pulled off. Hell, the puller tool was made of metal and even THAT was getting destroyed.

i think i will brake the pully soon enough :S and then i will see of someone has one of those pulleys like u used or.. grind the SOB off and install a new pully along with a new pump

Jurgen I'm confused. Are you mixing up the words "pulley" and "puller"? What exactly broke... The round pulley attached to the PS pump or the puller tool that you were trying to use to pull it off?

the round pully attached to the ps pump.. the puller is metal but the pulley ( round thing that the belt goes around it ) broke its plastic

yeah im going to to that the original i6 pully was metal but thats gone with the engine when i sold it..

im going to break this pully see if it will come off

2 tricks for future use if you don't have the $300 Snap on puller. Propane torch, gently warm the pulley hub and melt bees wax in it. An inferior puller will now remove the pulley. Cutting torch heat the pulley hub and watch it fall off. Must use a wet rag during and after to prevent the seal from getting trashed.
