haha it can be luke warm if you want it to. basically a cold chisel is for forming "cold" metal. as opposed to chisels that are used to form hot metal or if you were using a torch and a chisel.these chisels can be used without a torch or heat

This works for me, it's what Ford says to do!!!

1: Drill an 1/8" hole into the center of the rivit, but not all the way through.

2: Drill the 1/8" hole out with a 3/8" bit to the same depth.

3: Cut the top off with a cold chisel.

4: Use a punch to remove the rest.

I tried grinding them off and they would hang up on the other side.

If you follow the procedure above you wont believe how easy it is!!!

Yeppers.

They're huck bolts. Rhymes with another word you're likely to say while trying to remove them.

I've never seen a huck bolt used on a pick up truck. I've seen them many times on larger trucks, though.

Yep. :)
...and rail cars. :)
We used them on some "insulated joints" one time as an experiment. :)

Huck bolts look like regular bolts except the threads are -rings-.
The heads tend to look like carriage bolts but don't need the square
or oval part underneath it to keep it from spinning.

The end of the new Huck-bolt gets pulled off and pops like a pop rivet.

---------------------

I spark tested the rivets from a radius arm and they spark tested like
a common nail or grade 2 bolt, not like a grade 5 bolt or "cement" nail.

---------------------

I use a little hand grinder to get the head off and punch the rest out.
Works slick as anything for me. :) YMMV if you aren't good at using a
hammer and punch. ;)

This is the method I use also, but I hold the punch with a vice grip so I don't hit my hand with the hammer, lol.
