This is the method I use also, but I hold the punch with
a vice grip so I don't hit my hand with the hammer, lol.

Certain guys at work would hammer 'em through an old rail car's brake hose. :)
I tried that and didn't like it. Missed the cold chisel too much and so made
the job harder work IMO. :/ A "one up" pickup-frame-job wouldn't make
enough difference to matter tho. :)

Anyway, they'd put one on each end sometimes. A cold chisel on one end
and a 3/8" starting punch on the other. Some guys just never got the hang
of it and all the time had a big ol' scab on one hand. :) Only took a couple
good hits to my hand to "get it" back in the early 70's. {shrug}

Couldn't find a picture of the old B&S powered bond drill we used. :/
It had an aluminum frame.
I used the "hand bond drill" quite a few times when my B&S powered
one wasn't running or was just too much trouble to go get it because
only four holes was needed.

These are even more fun to chisel off... LOL :)

And the new guys don't use bond drills anymore they use these...

They sure enough look like even more fun. ;)

It doesn't take too much. I ground my rivets down to where the head was completely gone. I took a large screwdriver and put the tip on the rivet and hit the end with a hammer.

It'll come out...
