how to chek if something is draining the battery?

today the batt is dead!! i mean dead! nothing would click or nothing we jumped it and it started and after we removed the cables the volt meter keeps declining untill the engine died wtf!!??

the little batt light wasnt on

Disconnect ground cable. Hook clip from test light to cable then touch test light to neg. post. If it lights up you have a draw on battery. The memory for your radio might light it up so disconnect that. If it lights up after that start pulling fuses one by one until you find the circuit causing the draw.

i have a volt meter even better.. so from the neg cable to neg side of batter chek for ohms? or volts?

Check for volts. I use the light so I can stay inside the truck and pull the fuses instead of walking back and forth checking the volt meter. Stick the point of the test light in the post and you can usually see it from inside. Less walking around.

Umm Jurg...simple test to see if it's the alt is, disconnect the battery completely after you get it started. Vehicles are supposed to run from the alt, if it dies, it means your alt is shot.

Umm this is not a good test. It can fry a computer or electrical stuff. This is an old backyard trick, but not worth it, imo.

Frick...forgot he's dealing with something newer. In my book, it would still be an option though.

Easy enough to put his voltmeter on the battery and see if it has average of 14 volts going through it as well. It's an option I guess but I like to look for an alternative for potentionally causing a bigger issue.

I asked about it back when I wasn't so known, so that might have had something to do with it.

but its the frkn alternator again..it gets hot and drains the battery.. wtf! this is the 2nd one that does this..

Alt fully disconected light turns on ( but i found the prob it was the bazooka subwoofer behind the seat)

that prob is fixed now

alt connected light turns on

alt disconnected light is off

bad alternator right???
