Hard shifting

Got a 360 with the C-6. It shifts fine into second but hen I get to the point that it should shift up to third it either won't shift or shifts really hard. Is that a vacuum line or something on or in the tranny?

It can be the vacuum line, or it can be the downshift rod.

If it doesn't shift it's the vacuum line.

Not always. My 75 was run without the vacuum line hooked up due to the vac modulator failing and letting trans fluid be sucked into the intake. Still shifted, just late and hard.

So, that does beg the question, how are the shifts when it does? Late and soft, or late and hard?

Sounds like the vacuum modulator as Roger said.
