Most any parts store can get them. The link I gave was to Autozone, but you still have to get the pigtail to wire it with. I see them regularly on ebay as well.
Ok so I just ordered the pollack from jc whitney for 84 bucks it comes with the pigtail. I got another question for ya fellro. How'd you set up the alternator. How'd you do it, did you use the dodge one or your ford one
I used the Ford alt, but there are some that have set up a regulator to run the Dodge unit as well. If you go with the Ford, you have to use the Dodge pulley and a washer to get it to work. the shaft diameter is the same, but the pulley is shallower than the Ford pulley.
Id like to use my ford alt. What'd you use for a radiator? Do you know of any books that could help me with the wiring and finding the sensor wires in the trucks wiring that I need to use. Im using the trucks dash
I just used the Dodge radiator, it was pretty easy to set up, and eliminated some of the issues, like hoses being on the wrong side, and how to clear the intercooler. As far as book, a shop manual with a good wiring diagram will do the trick. I simply use the Ford senders on the Cummins. As you take the old motor out, if you need to, tag the plugs for the senders on the motor. Only need what is used for the gauges. I unplugged the harness connector, then hooked in to the harness on the back side of the plug, rather than have the original harness there, made for a big mess if I were to clip and keep the original harness.
Ok I just gotta find a dodge radiator. Im hoping to just have the truck down for 2 weeks 3 tops. So I wanna do a lot of pre planning and get a lot of stuff together and figured out
The way the Dodge rad mounts, I simply put holes in the gas rad support for the rubber mount to sit in, then took the top Dodge mount, folded it and welded it to be a 90 degree bracket using the factory Ford hole mounting hole.
No, the rad goes in the normal location. For the intercooler though, I had to rework the hood latch brace. I'll have to look and see if there is the same brace on the 90 as the 92. It fit behind the grille fine, if you were working on an 80-86, then you have to work the grille. The 87-91 grille doesn't angle back at the rad support. I hung the a/c condenser on the intercooler, which was a Dodge piece as well. Haven't hooked it all up, but that is where things get to be a mess. You have to find a way to integrate the two systems, a custom A/c shop should be able to make hoses to hook it all up. The other option I see done is to make brackets to mount the pump on the left side of the motor, run off the fan pulley. You have to weld a pulley on the fan pulley to be able to run it. You can just bypass the a/c pump with a non s/c belt, the routing basically just eliminates the part of the routing that goes around the pump.
I don't have to worry about an ac condensor. Don't got ac. I do however have to check my intercooler and see if its got any leaks. If I could only weld aluminum good enough
Hey, fellro. This is probably gonna be simple to figure out when it comes time to do the swap but. I was looking around on fordcummins website and their tachometer stuff. It got me wonderin how id do it. How did you set up your factory racy if you used one?
I haven't taken time to set it up, the Dodge tach is run by the computer, which I didn't reuse. The truck didn't have one factory either, so the Dodge tach head is not in use.
ill probably order some stuff from them so ill ask em about their tach set up ok so i was look at and extra ford alternata i have laying around and was looking at how the alternata mounts to the cummins, it looks like ill have to make a bracket to mount the bottom
Since I broke my drill today. I sat in front of the Cummins in my garage holding the alternata up, thinkin about the bracket you did. And I realized if I rotate it just 180° I could make the dodge bracket work with the ford alt. I do however have to shave just a little bit off the ear of the alt. Ill try to get a pic of it
