Don't want to create a leak or break a factory seal.

If your seals are that rotten that you can't even take the top off without fear of leaks, you should probably take the top off to replace said seals...and then remove the top whenever you want.

Yet you still clicked on it...must mean you think I'm attractive enough to check out sober...sweeeeeeeeet.

What if i cut a explorer top so it looks like a topless mini bronk?
Can i play?

Sure...there' an ambiguous title (even though it's in the Bronco forum).

My seals are good at 149k and there are only 4 bolts holdin my top on. I wasnt the 1st to remove it. If mine dont leak, no way yours is.

No, I like Shock thats why i go to places like Ultra gore and best gore and It cant be unseen, you know but you topless, yeah I needed some Liquid courage..
Now it was Tony Butt or Ryans back, well, thats another story :D

I would have the top off mine as well, but dad won't let me.

Said the tops never been off of it, and won't let me take it off. Afraid it won't seal right and will leak (It already leaks a little bit, so I figure it would be the perfect time to replace the seal...but he disagrees :headbang:)

Oi vei... has he ever had the top off a Bronco before? Read the Big Bronco FAQ's (second sticky in this forum)! Anyone who makes that claim obviously has either never removed one or has no idea how the seal in the top is designed to work... If the thing IS leaking then you HAVE to remove the top to replace the seal. If the top has never been removed from a 78 its no wonder the thing leaks... the seal (if it even still exists) will probably turn to dust the minute daylight hits it. Out of sheer curiosity, what is his approach to fixing the leak that it already has? (I'm waiting to hear this one just so I can giggle).

Please don't misunderstand my point here. I'm not trying to make fun of your father. I just think its a rather ridiculous notion that a leaking top will get better if you leave it alone. Might as well leave a leaking engine alone too... sooner or later the oil and coolant will all leak out and you can just replace the whole engine!

I understand that... he doesn't. I tried explaining it, but he won't listen to me.

As for fixing the leak, he wants me to put clear silicone around it. :headbang: (not gonna happen.) It isn't a major leak, just a few drops. but enough to be annoying..

I understand your not making fun of him, and I agree with what you said completely.

Yeah, the silicone will just make a mess out of the parts that were never meant to be "glued" together.

What I am about to tell you could get you into a lot of hot water but fix the truck. The top main seal is available through many different suppliers including JBG, LMC, and NPD. Order the thing and replace it at a buddy's house. Take the opportunity to drive it around without the top on it. (Little devil on my shoulder grinning from ear to ear). But then its not as evil as fixing something the wrong way of half-a$$ed. I'll shut up now before I contribute further to the degradation of the father-son bond.

I dont think he has a credit card to get parts online. Id just duct tape it for now untill you get a new seal the tape wont be as permanant as silicone.

The problem is that his parents won't order anything online.

If he has a savings/checking account he just needs to request a debit card and it will do everything a credit card can do...then he doesn't need to involve his parents at all.

I wasn't a rebel, but my parents weren't suffocating either. If I kept good grades, let them know where I was at/going as a courtesy and wasn't an azzhole when I was home, they pretty much let me do what I want.
