Doimg a swap from a inline six to a 351 w. Keeping the 5 speed of course but the truck has after market gears in axels cont rember off top of my head but they are like a 5.33 I have a donor truck that has 4.11 im running 31 x 10.5 s for tires sould I go with the 4.11 or something differnt. DONT CARE ABOUT GAS MILEAGE. Truck plows snow and tows my traliors around. But I dont wanna only go 60 mph like im doing now with the inline and current gear set. I have the tools and knowlade to do all the work but face it im 22 cant no it all.

4.11's will be more than adequate for that tire size and what you're wanting to do. Should open up your top end quite a bit. And I know you said you didn't care, but your mpg's should take a nice jump as well.

Yeah, I'd run the 4.11's for sure, unless you plan on going bigger with the tires soon. (and I mean much bigger, as in at least 37's)

I bet the thing must be absolutely screaming at anything above 65 right now.

^^^No kidding...I'm assuming he meant 5.38's, and if so...at 60, he's just south of 3500rpm. If he drops to the 4.11's, he'll be just north of 2600rpms (the upper realm of where he should be).

***Doesn't account for final tranny ratio.

I don't feel comfortable turning my cars more than 3k for long periods such as interstate driving. I wish I knew what the Bronco turned, but it doesn't have a tach.

The Monte turns about 2800 at 70, which I'm perfectly fine with, since I cruise at 70-80 normally.

^^^I've got 3.55's and 35's on my Bronco and turning right at 2500rpm at 70. When I swap in 4.56's and 36/37's, I project to be right around 3k at 70. If you can keep your tranny cool, and you have a solid engine, there should be no problem at 3k. IMO, if it can't handle 3k...chances are it's not gonna do much better at 2500.

Yeah I had to run the truck at 50 53 to keep the rpms down was always scared.to over rev it witch I did do once and just bent the # 1 push rod on the inline 6. U said tranny gear ratio do u know how I could find that out. Is thier a tag.or do I have to have it out and count revalutions in a spacific gear. Gearing is something im not sure of havent had to deal with it before.
Thanks againe for the info
And yes 5.38 spaced and forgot

^^^I just meant I wasn't accounting for an overdrive...and was just using a generic formula to get you in the ballpark.

Ok yeah its a over drive beeing 5 gear like said never dealt with gearing its the same tranny that was orig behind the 351 w so I shouldnt worry then going to just swap the gear sets when the time comes. I havent even got the truck in the shop yet jist trying to do a lil research.
Thanks greg
