Factory carburetor gurus?

Does anybody know which carburetor would be most commonly found on a 4V 390 out of a Ford pickup? Between 73-79 obviously. Not looking for anything too specific.

I'm trying to compare factory jet sizes to my current carb to make sure I'm in the ball park.

Thank you!

Derek.

Not me Derek...and I don't think I have any books on them either.

All I could find was info on the '67-'68 390 4 barrel, which used an Autolite 430 cfm 4100 carb. It didn't say anything about jet sizes.

My '75 Shop Manual talks about a Holley 4150 for the 391FT, 401, 477 and
534 CID engines.

But my '75 C700 has got one on its 361FT.
...maybe that C700 ain't as stock as I thought? :)
I should measure the stoke on it! xD

Motorcraft 4350 has metering rods and I've never taken one like it apart
before with its separate lower-throttle-body-setup like a Holley. The book
don't say nothing about what engines it was used for either. :/ Guessing
390FE's?

The 4100(?) Autolite Doug mentions is the one I'm most familiar with?
...It's just a 4 barrel version of the 2100. :)
I've robbed parts out of those. (they were trashed, no bridges burned)

But see, I've never knew the number designations on 4 barrel carburetors
because it ain't stamped on them anywhere. :/

Where's Bill the Number Dummy when we actually-need 'im for something? LOL :)

What are the casting numbers of the heads ?

4 bbl heads are slightly different than 2bbl heads.

I can list both carbs per application

For the OP, typically you go by the seat of your pants on carburetor jetting.
No kidding. :)

You know how to test for if it's too rich or too lean? :)

Dennis, you meant that for Alvin?
If so the engine's one hour away in Willcox and there's plans in the works to
go visiting friends there and will try to get the head numbers and check the
stroke on it too while I'm at it.

It'd be cool to know what carburetors supposed to be on it, so post away! :)

I don't know anything about Motorcraft/Autolite 4-barrel carburetors or their
numbers, let alone Holley numbers. :/

Something new to learn huh?

Got a 4-barrel Holley off a '75 460 ...don't know if it was stock or not either.
Need to get it out and dust it off. xD
