engine stalls

I have a 78 f-250. It starts with no problems but when I shift into Drive the engine stalls and dies. What do you think?

i had a similar issue with my 78 f100. it could be something as simple as a loose ground or it could be a bigger issue, possible a neutral safety switch.

If the neutral safety switch was bad, the engine would not start at all. It would not even crank.

A big vacuum leak can also do this. I had one that the hose visually appeared good, but once removed, it was noticeable that the hole was quite big... That was the hose from the carb base to the brake booster.

You didn't say which engine/transmission you had. It can be many things, probably the worst would be the torque converter.

First thought is a vacuum leak as well.

I had this problem before , vac leak was the culprit! good luck!
