Coffee Can reservoir receptical

Hey fellas. I'm trying to find a replacement for the coffee can vacuum reservoir that mounts on the driver's side inner fender. Problem is, the one I current have only has one port, all the good ones I'm finding have 3 ports. So what's the difference and/or where should I hook up my vacuum line? Are they even compatible? Here's a pic of one with three ports:

Ben , how big is the hole thats rusted. Can it be patched with a liquid rubber poured inside it.? Sort of like por 15 gas tank sealer.
I'm thinking cheap like rubber dip for tool handles .

Dennis...the pics you posted looks like that can goes to the smog pump, I no longer have the smog pump. I'll take some pics and see if I can't figure out where it's routed to. I thought it was a reservoir for the A/C and HVAC controls.

I was thinking something along those lines as well. I was thinking the JB putty might be the perfect candidate. The gash is about 2.5-3" long and about 1/8" wide.

Use one of the holes and plug the other two? I might have one of those 3 port ones if you're interested. Though, I might need it with my big new cam hehehe

If my reading is correct, I'm starting to think the three ports are for smog/emissions stuff and the single port is for dash controls. And I was getting the two confused. Thanks for the offer, I'll do a little more digging and see if I can't figure this out.

Since the can you have is already wasted, why not cut it and see what's inside?

I don't see how there could be any difference as to what goes on what nipple....it's just a reservoir. You should be able to use a three-nip and just plug the other two.

Nope, those hoses go to the Vacuum amplifier and manifold vacuum line

I'm about to start rescanning the 400 diagrams

All the reservoir is for is to ensure the AC and speed control have enough vacuum to operate properly.
The power brakes may need it as well.

I remember back in auto shop in school, we used to send a couple of 15 y/o
's with a vacuum reservoir over to the local service station for a reservoir full of winter air from their outside air hose.

We brazed an air valve on one so they didn't get suspicious when trying to get it in the can.

Sorry about that Bill, I had mentioned it in a couple other threads, and just assumed folks would know what I was talking about, but we know where assuming gets us. Anyway, it's one of my pet peeves as well. It's for the 79 Bronco.

Just for the search engine - those vac cans were juice cans or Hi-C cans - we never had coffee in a can like that.

Do yourself a favor and don't fix the one you got.
BTDT and it didn't work worth a hoot. ;)

Replace it with a plastic ball type...

You know what this thing looks like, doncha? When I first saw one in person...I thought...this looks familiar...then it dawned on me.

It looks like the space probes used in the film 2001.

Now...if I could recall what vehicle it was first installed in, I could dig up the full part number.

btw: I think mtflat was born after 1960, cuz he doesn't remember the old Maxwell House coffee cans that look exactly like the round cannister, complete with the concentric rings.

Their slogan is "Good to the last drop." Y'all remember who first said that...and where?

TR, after drinking his coffee, said that during a state dinner at the White House. Maxwell House (who supplied the coffee to the W/H) liked TR's comment so much, they adapted it as their slogan.

Thought for sure you were going to say "toilet float". LOL :)
Because that was my thought when first seeing the black-ball type.

Are you talking about the one-pound coffee-can?
Wasn't it a little shorter than the juice cans tho?

But what I don't understand is what happened to "the in between"? :/
Seems like I went from "young and dumb" straight to "old and stupid".

LOL...I'm 65 on the inside...and the outside, but still have all my hair, amazing...

When you consider I've pulled it out more than once...while arguing with bricks & Mil1ion's pal...The Little Weasel.

Sorry Steve and Dennis, I couldn't resist!

nope, mtflat was born in '53 and turning 57 this October....and no hair on top, but darned if it hasn't started to grow everywhere else!

I was thinking of the 1 lb coffee cans which are shorter, and 3 lb cans which are bigger around. It MIGHT be close to a 2 lb can size, but its been so long since I saw one of those I forgot they existed. I'll be the OP never even saw a 2 lb can. Which is funny cause none of them actually weigh what we call 'em.....sorta like the weight ratings of our pickups.

The can Ford used was much closer to the dimensions of the Hi-C cans to my recollection. I've emptied more than my share of Maxwell House cans over the years.
