C6 Assessment...

I've got a line on C6 that I'd like to throw in the Bronco. As with all drivetrain parts, it was 'rebuilt in the last 5000 miles'. The price is right, and if half the stuff the guy says is true, it's a smoking deal. However, it's been sitting for a while, and I've never dealt with this guy before, so I'm not taking his claims at face value. Lead me oh wise ones. How do identify if this has been a rebuild??? With a tranny sitting by itself, what do I need to look at or for to determine yay or nay??? The tailshafts are different between the 2 and 4wd trannies, but I don't remember the measurements??? Thanks in advance.

I just know I've never had luck with one that's been sitting on the ground or a concrete floor. They get condensation in them and corrode.

Anything other than having one rebuilt yourself its a crapshoot IMHO. I'd probably take a gamble on it if it looks good though.

If its a rebuilt unit Ben....the case should be pretty clean not all gunked up for one...Fluid color should be Pink..not brown along with no burnt smell to it on a 5k rebuild...

Gaskets should also look new. If it was a rebuild company, most times they paint the trans. It shouldn't look like it was just painted though if it was run some. Seals on both ends should look new.

I'm sure you know this, but for others that may read this, if the transmission is sitting with the torque converter in it you will need to replace the front seal before you install it.
