Bracket Modification

Those of us with 302's know abouit that section of the bracket that slides over a stud partially covering the waterpump.... The particular bracket is the AC/PS bracket. I'm tired of havin to take off this bracket to mess with the waterpump. So, can I take a bandsaw to that section that slides over the stud to eliminate the need to pull it to change the waterpump without reprocutions? (sp?) I'd love to since I've got to change the waterpump gaskets.

Subscribing to see the answer. I would say if you don't have to remove much then it probably wouldn't hurt if it is supported enough elsewhere. But wait to find out from someone who has tried it :)

The section below the two bolts...kinda forms a triangle....I wanna cut that off. The bracket is not touching anything below that.....not the stud and not the little round not below that.

That is a lot of support there. I don't know if it would be safe to cut. Could you modifiy a different bracket from anothe make?

Get a spare bracket and give it a shot. If it doesn't work out at least you can go back to the original way. I would try it if you are still leaving enough area for the other bolts.

A Mopar bracket might work since it's flat and bolts to the block.

Just my opinion but,
If you lose the support it could possibly throw the pullies out of alignment and start eating bearings.
You shouldn't have to get in to the water pump that much.
