Ya must have some crappy plugs then cause I ran that 390 for better than 6 months on the same set of plugs and it burned a little more than a quart every 60 miles.

Theres the problem I would foul them stupid platinums left and right but as soon as I got a good set of regular old motorcraft plugs I never fouled one. I also dont trust silicone so it could be leakin from there but it aint likely.

why is it oily in a few intake runners? specially nr 4cyl the one plug i always find with oil! its oily in there but not in the intake itself... i suspect the gasket was leaking.. because

i noticed something today... when cold it does not burn oil .. i drive it a little and give it a few revs let the engine warm up ( its NOT low on power i may add ) and it started smoking.. my money is on the intake gaskets.. ?

Well get some good flepro gaskets and this sealant. You can get it at any parts store but Autozone. This stuff is the best sealant ive ever used. It is very sticky and dries in half the time or less than silicone. Its kionda hard to get back off but if ya got a good putty knife or gasket scraper and a wire brush or wheel on a drill or grinder then it comes off fairly easy.

Heres the mini caulking gun that ya use.

The oil in the intake runners can be from bad valve guides, cracked head as well.
Did you have the heads Hot-Tanked & Magnafluxed before they were rebuilt?

If the sealing surfaces of the heads and intake manifold are not parallel & flat you can get a leak between the lower edge of the head and intake manifold that will pull vacuum and oil directly from the valley. This leak will not readily show up with external test methods. The heads & manifold should be checked during engine build up.
Have the heads or intake manifold been milled?
Also the manifold could be warped or improperly torqued.

Have you performed a cylinder leak down test?

See post # 10 above, i posted links to the leak down test process and places to buy or make a tester.

If you bought a remanufactured long block from Ford, why did you change the valve seals and springs?

I dont use silcone on any of that stuff. I use permadry gaskets, no need for silicone. When I do the intake gaskets I use permatex high tack. The intake gaskets are really supposed to be put on dry.

And I use a bead of ultra grey to go across the valley.

for the performance cam.. it required a double spring application to stop "valve float" at high rpms

its sensless replaceing the valve seals if your not POSSITIVE its them... one thing ive learned whole working at the shop, diag as much as possible before just throwing parts at it!, saves a lot of hastle
