Battery light staying on.

The battery light in my cluster is staying on after start up. I pulled the possitive post off the battery to see if the alt was staring to fail and the truck still ran. The battery is only two years old so hopefully it is still good, it seems to have lots of juice on start up. I don't have a tester to see where the amps are on the battery. When I pulled the positive post off, the battery light went off as well. As soon as I hooked it up the light came back on. The battery just seems to have lots of juice, and has no trouble starting the truck.

Do not, I repeat, do not remove that cable like that again. An alternator has the capacity to put out 110 volts. The circuit with the regulator in it lowers it to 13.5 or so. When the cable is removed, there is no regulator in the circuit. Then you are putting 110 volts to electronics made for 12. An ignition system only needs 2-4 amps to operate, even a sick alternator can do that. I would guess battery with no other tests done.

Didn't know, thanks guys. I'd really hate to mess my truck up more over something as stupid as that. Good to know. Anyway the battery light goes off now so I don't know what was up.
