*sigh*...I'm trying to suck it up, really I am.....but **** I need a break.

Have the new tires ready for install next weekend, shocks sitting in the garage..waiting.
So I drove her today about 4 hrs round trip, thinking how nice it will be with the new shocks...alllllll happy...:headbang:

About 20 miles from home, traffic comes to a screeching halt, ok no biggie, I slow down hard everythings ok and all of a sudden the truck lurches forward like I'd been hit. Glance in rear view mirror, guy behind me is far enough back that I can see his headlights.

:suspicious: maybe something fell over in bed, nope...ah crap...I figure it out.

Coming off stop lights truck shifts HARD, second gear HARD...:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
Call mechanic, he gives name of good transmission shop. I call and the Beast has an appt Monday am @ 7:30

I'm going to be the only one with a fully restored '94 that costs more money than a '34.

Sorry guys, had to take some time away from it yesterday.

Chris, it will go thru the gears, just shift hard, as in a shudder/lurch.

There are no lights flashing in cab so I never thought about the codes. I take it hooking up the OBD will scan tranny too? If so, I'll ask the guy tomorrow am.

Roy & others...I never thought about the possibility of "something simple"...LOL!!! With this truck it's usually been "worst case scenario" to the end. Gawd I hope it's something simple~

Ryan, not sure about the total failure. It will go through the gears etc but the deciding moment it started was that hard fast slowdown on the freeway. Like I mentioned, it truly felt like my rear bumper had been hit, that big of a jolt.

Last few times I've driven it, I can hear a slight whine from the tranny when under 40mph. Course I listen to this truck all the time as I'm expecting something. I can hear the drive train clearly, I can hear the lovely Ford power steering pump (gah...hate that noise), and now I get lurching.

Maybe that's what I'll call it instead of The Beast....Lurch! I like that!

Trans codes are 600's. It could be tps too.

Mechanically the trans sound ok, it likely is a control system issue. TPS is definitely suspect.

If it goes through all gears then its not something major. I guess it could be the TC but im also inclined to think its the TPS... Pull codes in the manner Cliff suggested. It's pretty straight forward. I did it a few times to make sure i got the codes right...

Usually when it goes in all gears, it's electrical. is the o/d light flashing?

and yet once again the Beast has gone to the extreme.

Shop pulled codes this am.

"Excessive clutch failure torque converter"

"MLPS, neutral safety switch, no signal"

The fluid smelled burnt, they're taking it apart.......I have no words.

Did tell me it's a E40D heavy duty, is that good?

oh, while driving it to the shop, each and every gear was lurching harder and harder as I drove. I'm in the valley and had to go up a hill...did not like that.

Judging from those codes, it MIGHT just need a new MLPS. The bad MLPS could potentially be causing the other failure. If that's the case then it would be a fairly inexpensive fix. The MLPS is a cheap part and easy to replace.

See if you can swap a Mlps with some one for a ride to see if it . Mine did same thing I changed fluid and it seemed to help But I have yet to take on trip .
