I can't speak for Ryan, but i personally took it as he was poking fun at your mechanics... Not your situation. Most of us have been with a broken down vehicle at some point or another and we all know it sucks. I think he is trying to lighten the situation by saying your mechanics must be severly confused. To those in the know ( nothing against you personally, not all of us are mechanics ) this is really quite a simple thing to do. Honestly, the mechanic you've been at sucks. Plain and simple, yes there are unexpected situations that come up. I would be willing to bet that it will be something simple, rookie mechanic it could easily be a tooth or 2 out of time on the distributor. Firing order COULD be wrong, but that far off i see a hard time getting it to even run. Possible i guess. But rookie mechanic could have timed it as a 302 just simply not knowing... I'm sorry for your situation and i pray it all works out for you in the end. If you were closer i wouldn't mind taking a look at it. But thats nearly 3k miles away. :)

Ah...thank you for explaining "guy" humor. =) (I think I'm out of patience on this thing)

Appreciate the gesture of "looking at it" and I can see how 3K miles might be an issue.

Tis all good, everyone enjoy the weekend!!!

I think we can all understand your patience being worn thin with this. I hate when things start going down this kind of road. I really hope this new mechanic will do you right and things will start looking up for you!

Hopefully the situation will get better soon and you can enjoy the truck. I agree with Don that Ryan was definitely making fun of the mechanic not your situation.

Hopefully Your new mechanic will start at the beginning and look at the simple stuff - just one word of advice E ...... Make sure that the mechanic DIAGNOSES the fault first rather than just throwing parts at it until it comes right - i've been there and done that myself and fixed the problem but at three times the cost that it needed.

Get yourself one of these tools http://www.babcotools.ca/Tools/EPI3145 - they are under $30.00 and come with a book which lists all the trouble codes and gives a basic diagnosis so that you know where to start trouble shooting.
You will find it really easy to use and it will help stop any dodgy mechanic trying to pull the wool over your eyes if you can say " i think i have xyz problem with my truck because it shows fault code XX on my diagnostic tool"

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to prod at you in that way.

It was more of a cumulative joke about the state that the truck is in, and more specifically, the mechanics inability to fix it.

I apologize that it came off wrong.

And to address your technical situation, your truck has a Ford OBD (version 1) hookup. These are for vehicles 1995 and earlier. That is the same code reader I use on my 1994, and the reader is under the hood, close to the firewall on the driver side fender.

From 1982 thru 1995 - its for obd1 vehicles which yours is and the plugs that you fit onto the scanner are on the drivers side of the truck in front of the brake booster assembly or very close to it (on my truck anyway) - the book that comes with the scanner is very helpful as well with full details on how to use it and tips and tricks as well.

I can't remember where i brought mine from but i do remember that the freight was more than what the tester cost which was about $20.00 ... maybe amazon.com?

This link http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=13 can show you what the plugs look like and is a great site full of knowledge regarding eec1v issues .

I bought mine at our local O'Reilly auto parts a few years back. They had one hanging on the shelf and no ordering was required. I gave $19.99 for it.

Just gunna throw this out there, but if your mechanic shop is worth a hoot, then they will have a substantially better and much more sophisticated code reader than that. It does the same thing, but works for about any vehicle. So, before you spend the money. I would ask if they pulled the codes and what came up. (write these down) then do some looking...

First post!

I've got a 93 F150 4x4 extra cab and I'm getting codes for low EGR flow. I just replaced the EGR and still getting same code. I'm thinking about changing the sensor that is mounted on the top of the egr. Any thoughts?smilieFordlogo

Call me an amateur, but I'd unhook the battery for 20-30 minutes and let the computer reset. Then I'd put it back on and drive it to see if the code re appears, or if the code is just left over in the memory from last time.
