AC clutch no spin

1995 f150 5.8 251k

So initially my clutch would spin then stop and spin then stop when I ran the AC. Now the clutch doesn't spin at all. I read this could be caused by very low freon and to just start to fill it up and see if the clutch engages?? Not the safest but I'm willing to try, I just don't know how long to try to fill it for since the gauge won't work. Any Suggestions?

Just start adding some in and when you get enough in it to get some pressure in the system the clutch should re engage and stop again.
Good luck!

Yep- '93 did that. Clutch has a failsafe so it doesn't disintegrate when it's low.

Nothing really unsafe about it either... It's pretty tough to overfill a system from a 1lb can like you get at a parts store or WalMart
