About that radio...

As much as I enjoy the sound of my door squeaking on my drives to and fro, I'd love to listen to some tunes... What is the setup for a 78 F-150 ranger? (Speaker location???)

What I was thinking is - A: replace radio and speakers for a semi-stock look... or B: Build a removable speaker box with mount for radio to go under dash and keep original radio for stock look at shows...

Sounds good to me... My only concern is running the speaker wires; I'm removing the carpet and bedlining the floor.

what about the door sills?

Run the wire down and under the door sills then behind the seat and into your speakers. you can hid it in the weather stripping if it small enough wire.

1 5.25" in each door behind the door panels and should be 1 5x7 in the dash. Some guys who want to retain the stock look leave the stock stereo and then put a new head unit in the glovebox.

I forgot I had door sills!!! So, speakers under the seats and radio in the glove box... Are there any pre-fab boxes for the glove box?

None of my 70s model fords have come with speakers in the dash lol

There are provisions for it. You see the venting in the middle of the dash? There should/could be a 5x7 under there.

welp im wrong..
im a gen 5er... :)

You're not used to it yet?

Are you looking for extra speakers, or just don't want to put any in your doors? And no, nothing for the glove box for our trucks ...you'll have to make your own, you might be able to find something and make it work though for another vehicle.

Well, I haven't done any real exploring in the truck audio-wise... My door panels are solid, so I wouldn't imagine speakers being behind them.

You know those pop off right? Just held on by clips. From the factory, 5.25" speakers came behind the door panels. There are holes waiting and ready for you to put new speakers in them courtesy the folks at Ford.

Sure enough, there are a bunch of nimrods that don't realize that, then just start hacking away and cut into perfectly good door panels so they can put speakers in. When in reality, if they would have just removed a handful of clips and pulled the panel, they woulda realized there were holes there already. A give away is the venting on the front edge at the bottom of the panel.

I thought the door speakers were 6.5''?...I'm pretty sure that's what I took out of the 79.

Hmmm...good point. I know for a fact the speakers I just replaced in the Bronco were 5.25" (might have got that stuck in my head), but just took a look at Red's and they were 6.5".

If that thing is anything like the old JC Whitney thing, I'd have a good look at one in person before pulling the trigger on one...just my 2 cents.

Edit....you could also get a 5 x 7 DVC speaker to take the place of the dash one, a couple of 6.5's in the doors and a couple of 6 x 9 subs behind the seats...would give you decent sound with little hassle.
