A little present for my truck

I have been wanting a toneau cover for a while. Maybe better to say for the last couple of trucks I have wanted to get one but never did.

Anyways I did not want a hard toneau because of difficulty of putting oversized loads in the bed. I don't haul them that often but often enuf to make me not want the hassle.

Found a user on another forum that bought one that was the wrong size so I picked it up from him. Anyways here are some pics. I like the way it looks. I dunno if it gives me any better mpg's or not.

Looks good Aaron...anytime the truck gets a gift is a good day. I can't really tell, how does that cover roll up, is it button/snap kind, fold up kind or retracting? And of course you had to bring the whole 'will it help mpg' thing into it huh? My opinion it won't...either way looks good. I think it kinda completes the truck with the other blackout accessories.

I do NOT think it is going to help MPG's in any noticeable way but maybe ever so slightly.

It is pretty sturdy with built in "bows" that rest along a rail on the inside, to keep it from sagging. It has velcro closure on the sides with a tensioner latch on the tailgate end of it. It does roll up to the cab of the truck and secures with two included, removable, straps.

So far looks cool.

I do like the white/black color combo I have going on with just a bit of chrome to set things onn. I think I am going to get a black grille and maybe do something with the lights. maybe blacked out HID's or something.

i really dont think that it will help MPG's at all. i honestly think that it will hurt it some but not much..... remember that with a tailgate down you loose MPG because of an air pocket that forms in the bed helps to make the end of the truck lighter with the tail gate up. with out the tail gate air pocket it makes a downward draft causing more weight....

not a big fan of them but it looks nice man

Looks good. I have alwaysed like that kind. Mine came with the regular one that sits on the bed rails and has the buttons. Its nice but sometimes the buttons are a pain to snap and unsnap and trying to stretch it out so the corners snap. I have noticed better mpg with it though. I had mine off for a week last week and gas seemed to be just falling out of the tank. With it on it seems to last just a little longer. Not alot but enough to make a little difference. It helps so the air dont hit the tailgate and act as a sail

I wana know how a tailgate that is down hurts your mpg compared to it being up. Remeber if its up the wind comes around and goes in the bed then will hit your tailgate if its up and acts as a sail. Its a wind stop. If it was down the wind just continues to move on. So im going to have to disagree with what you said. My truck has gotten better gas mileage with the toneau cover on then off with the tailgate up.

Watch Mythbusters. They proved it YelloThumbUp

I dont need to watch it. I experience it last week. I had it off for 4 days and it sucked gas. I drive 60 miles a day to work and back. I put it back on and on my same trip to work the needle barely moves. Just think about it for a minute. If the tailgate is up and you are driving down the road the wind comes over the cab and comes back down and hits the tailgate. Its going to act as a sail. It will cause your air pocket. With the tailgate down the wind is going to come over the cab and down and immediatly exit the bed of the truck. There is nothing resitsting it. Same as the tonneau cover it goes over the cab and comes down and hits the tonneau cover but there is nothing that the wind is going to hit so it continues on. Believe me I know this from experience. I have tried all 3 ways and the tailgate down and or a tonneau cover works best. I just dont like to leave my tailgate down thats why I got a tonneau cover. You cant believe everything you see on t.v. I know a few ppl that have tonneau covers and they all have said they have gotten better mpg with then without it.

Yeah what you're saying makes sense. Common sense tells me that tailgate down should beat tailgate up.. Even Jamie and Adam were surprised by the results. But they had a realtime fuel usage meter (physically measuring the amount of fuel being transferred from the tank to the injectors, in realitime) and all other conditions being held constant, the best mileage was attained with a tailgate net

It goes against common sense-- I know. But what do the mythbusters have to gain from disproving the "tailgate down" theory? [confused] Just watch the episode and maybe it'll change your mind.

My uncle has that same cover. He really likes it BTW. Easy and it doesnt flex or stretch as much as a regular snap cover.

Also think about it. A tailgate net is just like having a tailgate down. The net is just there to protect the little things from falling out. But doesnt resist the wind. When I had my tonneau cover off I got about 14 mpg with it on I get 15-16. More closer to the 16. My first quarter tank with the tonneau cover will reach 110-120 depends on how hard I drive it. Doing the same driving without it I was getting 80-90 miles to a quarter tank. Im not saying mythbusters have something to gain from disproving it but I have done it and have experienced it and Im telling you what I have experienced and some ppl I know. I wanted to get rid of mine so I could put a diamond plate took box and cb whips on but after seeing the mpg without the cover and the way gas prices have been I think I will keep it on.

I actually saw noticeable improvements between having the tonneau on my truck or not. Maybe 1-2 mpg highway. Been a few years since I last had it on there, though, so I can no longer recall too many of the details.

I'll be curious to see how you like that in the long run- when I got my truck it had a snap-on tonneau on it. Hated that thing, but until I got a good deal on a cap, it was still better than nothing, for the way I use the truck.

Next truck, hopefully, won't require quite so many tools, so I'd like to go back to a tonneau (since I don't like the canopy, either) but I know I don't want anther snap style one. If the Velcro is satisfactory, that would be great...all the other options either cost too much or have some other sacrifice I'd rather not make.

Keep in mind guys, the cab acts like a ramp, and the air goes up and over and leaves an air pocket in the bed. The air doesn't automatically just go over the cab and come directly back down into the bed. And the point mythbusters made was with the tailgate down, there was enough extra distance added to where the wind would come back down and put extra force on the tailgate. So if you have a cover, for the most part, it'll be the same as not having one...not saying you won't see some extremely small improvements, but minimal at best. I had a cover on thunder...and you wanna talk about being able to see a gas needle move, anyone with a 460 knows what that's about...and I NEVER have seen a difference with or without cover.

The air rolls in a circular motion off of the top of the cab into the bed. It continues to roll until it "rolls" out of the bed. The shape of the rear tailgate keeps the air from trying to roll back into the bed of the truck- serious.

Interesting...I'll retract my earlier statement, was just explaing what I have always heard. But I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be an age old argument like Ford vs Cheby and Holley vs Eddy...regardless of facts, people will stand staunch in their thoughts ignorantly or not.

Do I see a, ahem, pattern forming here?

Can't just have black and white at work, now you gotta have it on your personal vehicles as well... :D

Never have really like them covers on trucks, but I'll admit it looks pretty good.
