well the starter was changed this morning but its still havin issues startin. when it turns over it starts to start then it dies, unless you rev it a lil bit. and secondly i think the head gasket is startin to go. no coolant in the oil but white smoke out the exhaust. bout how much would it be to have a new head gasket put in?

I had a similar starting issue in my Bronco...ended up being the TPS. As for the head gasket...you're probably looking at an easy $3-400. No chance you can get the lot to fix this?

Its really uncommin for the head gaskets to go on these engines. If it starts and dies id try the IAC, my bronk does that, I swapped a good one from my stangs old intake to it and it starts fine now. You could also have a bad ground. Do a coolant pressure test and leave it over night and see if the pressure drops. If so then maybe ur head gaskets are leakin. I think our shop would be like 700-800 for head gaskets. 3-4 is too cheap from a shop.

I was gonna say IAC, too.

As to the white smoke out the exhaust...could be a head gasket, but it could also be an intake gasket.

I initially thought IAC too (and even edited my post from that), but wouldn't he have to get it started first? So I thought since he had to feather the throttle so it would start, that it would be TPS. As for the head gaskets...sheesh, that's pretty steep comparing to my area, when the HG's went on Thunder a few years ago, the highest quote I got was 600.

Thanks for the quote, Trav... :rolling laugh:

HAHAHAHAHA

see thats throwin me off. sometimes we have to feather the throttle sometimes not. like this mornin i went and started it it started up and it wasnt idlin very well so i had to feather the throttle to keep it runnin. to me it seems as though the IAC is a faulty one and the TPS is intermittantly goin out.

Well if you can get it started...then I'd go with the IAC first.

well 200 towards buying it. 65 for the starter. 40 dollars to fill it up. 25 for new plug wires and 20 more for new plugs. havent put them on yet. and 15 for a new rear view mirror and 15 for a new drivers side interior door handle and 50 for new headlights.

Well geez Chris,that's alot for 3 days.lol.

But I imagine replacing an intake gasket wouldn't be fun either, cause you'd have to remove the upper intake plenum, and that's a job in itself.

im up to the task if needed. either to pay someone or do it myself. but i have a friend who's mechanic and he just recently got laid off and he said he would do it for cost of parts and 100 dollars.

haha sounds like my carbed engine.. have to rev it to 1500 for like 15 seconds otherwise it would die lol.. only at cold starts tough!

try cleaning the IAC first with Carb cleaner
take it off clean it!

That upper intake plenum really suck to get the bolt inside. I ended up breakin the ear off to get it off then had it welded back on and a new button head was used.
