97 F350 Crew

To All:

Hello and I am a proud Diehard Ford Man and am new to this forum!

I just recently purchased a 97 F350 with a 7.5 Liter (460) gas motor. I have always loved this body style over the 1999+ years and finally found one worth purchasing for a reasonable price.

My question to all is what can be done to wake up the engine a bit? I have installed a K&N filter, but outside of sound, there doesn't seem much punch. I do understand you can only go so far with these engines due to fuel restrictions. I also purchased a Jet Chip, but have not installed it yet.

Any sound advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to FTF. I like that body style over the new also. As for the engine performance, try the chip out and see how it goes, I'm sure others will chime in with more knowledge on what u can do to help it out.

I'm honestly not too informed on getting performance out of a newer EFI engine.

I would think headers would bump it up a bit, if it will run ok without oxygen sensors and things of that sort, I know some wont.

Im not up to snuff on the maf conversions for a BBF but i do know in the SBF arena they really open the door for big power.

With that said. Headers and exhaust. Would help. But make sure you have bungs welded in for your O2 sensor... To keep you comp happy. You could swap in a larger cam, but make sure you get one that will work with the Speed Density on your truck. Ignition upgrades can open up a bit of power, and you can bump the timing a bit too.

A MAF swap would really open up power, you could swap in a bigger cam get into the smaller strokers. Ignition upgrades

To start, a full tune up and making sure you dont have any exhaust or vac leaks will be a big help.

You have a solid starting point here, the only limit is your budget.

Shouldn't the truck already be MAF since it's OBDII?

I'm *pretty* sure it's an MAF already. A picture under the hood would decide that fairly quickly.

I'm no expert on the big 460, but Ford sure conservatively cammed the 351w. I bet the 460 would get a lot of benefit from a more peppy cam. I've also heard the stock heads are a little lame, but now we're talking about investing some $$$.

Thanks for the welcome and all the intial information. I do plan to to install the Banks Power Pack which is supposed to bump 60+ rwhp with increased air flow. All with no programming.

I did try out a cylindrical K&N intake, but my truck ran so bad, I returned it to stock.

Any experiences with the Banks Power Pack?
