89 f-250 won't shift into 3rd

Hey I just purchased a 89f250 it has the v8 with the auto tranny. First, second and reverse all work fine but it makes no attempt to shift into third. Are there any common problem areas too look at?

That's pretty strange. I suppose it could be a bad shift solenoid. Do you know which trans it is? I don't think they were using vac operated solenoids that late in the game but if they were then it could be a vac leak.

I'm pretty sure it has the c6 tranny in it

Finally got to look at it today it has the c6 In it...

You sure it doesn't go 1-3, skipping second? If the band gets worn, the "wedges" drop into the pan. The result is no second gear. Is there a hesitation shifting out of first gear?
