I love the new stang's style. The previous was gorgeous and they've somehow found a way to make it even more badass. Bravo Ford YelloThumbUp

And you can make a 8 second street legal mustang :D

Mid 9's are about the best I've ever heard, and that's with the prior gen bodystyle (lighter) and significant mods. GT500's are a 12 second car out of the box. A base Corvette does a 12.5 quarter, tops about a little over 180, gets 30 mpg at a normal freeway cruise, and runs out the door for just a tic over $40,000. In terms of bang for the buck, the car flat stomps anything made anywhere for under $100,000.

On the other extreme, a ZR1 set a track record at Nurburgring with a Chevy engineer behind the wheel. Point being, not only is the car stoopidly fast, kicking sand in the face of exotics costing 2 and 3 times as much, but it doesn't take a professional race driver to wring out what the car's got.

Now if Chevy could just sprinkle some of that pixie dust over the rest of the product line, they wouldn't be holding their hand out for a handout, ya know?

And I still say for the price of a 'vet, you can trick out a fox bod to eat vipers. And live on the street.

Look at the car though- may be street legal, but strictly set up as a drag/stoplight racer. Corvette's are... ummmm... a bit more multi-faceted. And a few grand in mods will give the little Stang fits.

Understand- I like the Mustang... a lot. So do many Corvette owners- many of which have a Mustang as well. The cars are very different though- and while you can throw enough money at a Mustang to possibly beat a Corvette in a 1/4 mile, the 'Vette plays a whole lot of other games extremely well. It's a more expensive, but better-rounded Sports Car.

I think that pretty much sums it up, it's a SPORTS CAR, that means it does everything well, not just one specific thing.

Sure you CAN build a mustang to hang with it in the 1/4 mile, but then you would have to have another one to keep up on a road race track, and another to have the same drive-ability, and comfort.

Over all, the Corvette is a better buy if you want a new weekend driver. Where as the Mustang is something you can drive everyday.

Thats just my $.02 worth....

Good post. Let's not forget that seatbelt issue as well. The Corvette is a no-compromise 2-passenger car.

The real Ford-Chebbie comparisons willl have to wait until the Camaro hits the ground, and we have a real apples-to-apples comparison.

and if chevy puts the 6.1L in the Camaro? Then Ford responds with the 6.2L in the Mustang. :D

The new zr-1 is a car in its own world.
The vette is a "race" car built for daily driving...
This has been chevy's baby for what 40+ year?
If you want a car to tear up the road track, get a vette.
I know i would.

You can get mustangs to tear up road tracks as well, but the aerodynamics just are not the same,

straight line racing i would take a stang.

Bang for the buck get the vette, be cool, like all the other 50 year old doctors are.

Or get a 07 with a v6 and swap in a boss headed 460 stroker.... I belive it was figured to be a 589? I could be wrong there, and walk the gt500's all day long..

Other wise get a mustang......

If you are wealthy and want to go fat AND turn, get a ford gt....

The Vettes are great cars, nearly bought one but I sure am happy with the GT500.
