2008 F350 King Ranch Cab Off Repair

All things considered, seems a two post lift and a few bolts, and there's a world of opportunity to work on, there. Maybe it's not such a bad idea after all.

Think about it, even on the 50's, 60's, and 70's vehicles, wouldn't it make it easier to work on the engine if the body wasn't there? Now, what if the manufacturer made it easier to remove the body---quick disconnects on the hoses, electrical connectors that fit only one way, body bolts that are more accessible, plus manufacturer instructions, step by step to do the job correctly. Well, thats the 08 superduty.

Just one more way that average people can't work on their own vehicles at home. Engineers know how to make money. They design stuff so that we can't fix it (or get access to it) and have to take it to the dealer.
All you need is a 2 post lift.

All? It was a lot easier to pull an engine with a simple hoist. It was easy to drop a transmission with a floor jack. Those things are affordable. Lifts are several thousand dollars, if you have a place to put one. I certainly don't have room for one in my tiny garage.

I hope I never end up with something I have to remove the body to work on it. :headbang:

I hope that the 4.0 SOHC can be pulled in the conventional manner down the road. Can it? I bought it long before I heard about this body removal thing.

The newer explorer transmissions don't even have a dip stick (mine does). Engineers are making it where we can't do anything to our own vehicles. You have to be a computer tech and have all sorts of special tools anymore.

I guess that is good for those of you who work on them in a shop, but forget the average guy having all the stuff.

two post lifts can be had for about 2K, but the height issue, well, you always wanted a 2 story garage, right?

I feel your pain, bro. I hope something breaks open for you soon to solve some of that. Wish you could teach in the IT dept at Missouri southern or something close to another D program

You don't HAVE to pull the cab, but it makes it sooooo much easier. The trans on the explorers show jaguar engineering at its finest. The large plug at the bottom of the pan is both where you check, fill, and drain the fluid. Remove the large plug, it drains. Remove the small plug in the center of the large one at operating temp, to check fluid levels. The fluid should barely dribble out.

Not to mention lifting the cab provides an awesome opportunity to play with some polyurethane bushings....
