Hey mods, can we have a competition for a new logo? - I feel as if it could use a refreshing. It'd be interesting to see what the guys (and girls?) could come up with!

I guess I have to ask, how old do you think the logo is? The site is only about 3 years old, more towards the times????? The logo was redone after the site got going good to make it look better than it was....

update it a little bit, make it more twards the times. i was thinking if the admins dont mind, and the members dont mind. we have a poll to pick some members rigs to put in the logo :D

Maybe TOTY...cough...cough. Not really, I think the theme meshes together nicely right now. Maybe change the font a little, because I feel like I'm looking at a 'pipes' screen saver with that font, but beyond that, I think it looks good.

Just because it's only been around 3 years, doesn't mean it can't be freshened up though, but I'm just playing devil's advocate, I see nothing wrong with the banner. Hell, I've been on or around a couple sites now that haven't changed their banner in 6-7 years.

But pertaining to the logo, as the thread states, I still dig the icon that pops up on the IE tab or is on the fanatic badge.

I was just saying that it wasn't that long ago that the logo got reworked. It has been updated from what it originally was, and this is an improvement over what was the initial logo. Generally, once a logo is accepted, it doesn't get changed a lot, that would be like Ford updating the blue oval, it is branding, and typically it needs to stay consistent, rather than continually changing.

Finding something that everyone liked was a MAJOR deal, and a major pain. The FTF "LOGO", homepage, sticker and more have all gone thru the process. Several things were considered- visibility and recognizability were key. Things can always be made FLASHIER, but trying to play into current trends is disastrous.
I am proud to know the guys that have done it, and I say, they've done a great job.

Another thing we want to do is stay consistent enough to where we can be recognized. Updates are great every now and then but we are who we are and there's a good deal of memory associated with image, color, etc.

While i like the new logo idea's just to see what people can come up with.
Ryan is right, branding needs to stay consistent so it can be easily recogonized.

And we seem to be getting alot of new members so I think changing stuff around might cause some confusion. If it isn't broke don't fix it...

I completely agree with you Tom.

Simply put: this wouldn't be a whole new setup for header and logo, but rather a 'refresh' for the old. Nothing radical of upside down. Just a new 'finish', if you will.

While I do appreciate all the work everyone does here, and I don't have a clue what it would take to do any changes, I kinda sorta agree with Austin. Maybe throw the TOTM up as one pic and swap it out every month, then use the TOTY as the other pic for the year. And I have never been a fan of that FTF font. But majority rules, just throwing out ideas if it were possible. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think simply swapping the pics out and updating the font would hamper the integrity of the FTF brand.

I've actually considered that idea, and it was part of my original plan, but it's high maintenance. I was also wanting to put in holiday versions of banners. We simply just don't have the time as admins. All 3 of us work full time. The other two guys have families and I have school + the woman... Not going for a sympathy plea, just letting you know what kind of business model we have right now.
