Hey all, Installed headers, EGR is blocked off with a plate (RTV'ed) bought the eliminator, and pluged the green vacuum line.

Still have a check engine light.....

Made sure everything was pluged in and all, everything looks good. Used tons of RTV so i know the block off plate aint leakin. Any ideas? Imma run a test tomorrow and see whats goin on. Runs good, this morning was a little shaky this morning, idled up and down a few, and just didnt feel right, but ran good afterwards. O2 is pluged in, so idk. Any ideas?

hahahaha poor thing cant catch a break! lol haha Il figure it out tomorrow.

I was reading a post on "another forum" where a guy went through every concievable combination trying to eliminate the EGR, and the only one that worked and kept the CEL off was to connect the complete EGR system the way it should be with vacuum and electrical lines and insert a blockoff plate between the valve and intake. I know this will work because it is what I did when I first put the 5.8 in my truck, and I never got a CEL. It seems that the computer has to see the valve operating or it will throw a code.

I don't think you are going to get rid of the CEL until you reset it. And that is done after you check the codes.
As for the running issue, it's going to take a solid day or two of normal commuter driving for things to right themselves and for the computer and sensors to all get back in sync.
Hope that was the super-high-temp RTV... I don't trust that stuff further than I can throw it.

Why not yank the green line, the soleniods (by the coil), the vacuum canisters and the lines going to them? You don't need them anymore.

Like fixit said, reset the computer and make it relearn everything.

In order to find why you have a CEL light it would be helpfull to know the number that corresponds with the code has been set. Also, it might be a good idea to take readings of the signal being sent to the EEC regarding EGR position....you want the computer to think that there is an EGR valve and that it is closed.

Ok how exactly do i reset it? Yes i used good RTV, and i even used RTV on the end of a bolt and shoved it in the green vacuum line, Of course everything had about 9 hours to dry before i started it back up. Il snap a picture of how everything looks.

But i guess right now is to find out how to reset my computer.

an old ford mechanic told me to unhook the battery, then get in the truck and flash your light switch about 4 times, press the brake about 4 times, and do whatever (im guessing to drain what power is left in the PCM). Yea it ran kinda rough, but now its running like a champ, just still throws the engine light.

It runs good, i had the battery disconnected and connected it back up and took it for a drive, still has the check engine light.

Idk if it was a long time or what but its disconnected rite now and il connect it in the morning and take it for a drive. If i still got a light then il just run some codes.

1) What number corresponds with the CEL? You know how to pull codes...right?

2) Disconnect the battery negative and leave it disconnected for a couple hours. I am not sure what the exact time length is, but 2 hours (or more) will do it. See what code you have now, erase the computer memory, drive it for a while, see if a code comes back and if so what one.

Yea ive ran a test before, il have to get the directions again. Im gonna let it sit over night with the battery disconnected. See what she does tomorrow morning. Ran great all day today. Happy with it.

Those lightning headers make alot more noise in the cab, and sounds great when i rev it up.
