Wiper Arm Removal...

Just wondering how you guys remove the wiper arm on your rigs??? I typically lay down a towel/wash cloth on the cowl and get to prying with a screwdriver or such. Pop off the arm, put the new arm on, align the splines and tap the arm down all the way. I'm thinking there has to be a better process than this. I just worry about the one time I slip and the towel moves and I end up with a nice 6" gash along my cowl/hood.

I use a slide hammer with the L shaped attachment to pop them off. I dented the cowl on a car once using a screwdriver.

Yeah that would work well. The metal deforms pretty easily when prying... It's aluminum, right? Been a long time... I remember leaving the nut loose on the threads, and then tapping on the nut with a ball peen while pulling up on the base... I had the hood and engine removed, so I had a nice approach standing in the engine bay. This was on my 66'

Good luck! Maybe some penetrant would help if the arm is aluminum. Dissimilar metals will corrode easily, as you know.

That's going to get bought momentarily. I figured there had a be a 'pulley puller' for the wiper arm...just never cared when the problem wasn't at the fore front.

I don't think that a puller. It's just a handle to hold onto while you pull.

The wiper arm would have to have a hole in it to be able to use any type puller.

That handle is threaded, I was assuming you get under the head of the wiper with the forks, and the 'bolt' uses the head of the wiper as the resistance. But thinking about it...that would leave a dimple in the head of the arm. I'm a doofus.

I used to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to get it off..back on with a wooden mallet UNTIL

I bought the special removal tool.

I'm gonna have to get me one of those tools if they work great.

I've been happy with mine Buck....sure makes things easier and way less chance of damage.
