Window suckage

I hate seeing my gas lever move, so I don't use my perfectly working AC anymore. Windows go down every time I jump in. No issues, until today.

I went to roll up the driver's side window and the handle seemed to be loose - it was inoperable. I tightened it up and it rolled the window about half way up before it came loose again. Tightened it again and the window went up. I don't have this issue when going down.

What's up?!

Teeth on the handle, or the shaft (or both) are probably worn and slipping. You may need to replace them.

Or- Make sure the teeth are lined up, then screw it down as tight as possible. Sometimes the screws will loosen on their own, too.

Agreed with these fellas, teeth are worn. I've seen it before where the crank is seated 100% either and just rounds off. Make sure the crank is all the way on. Make sure to maintain pressure when screwing it in and report back.

Then send me your A/C stuff. My rims for your AC stuff...sounds fair.

This is what I've got on the driver's side...

The wood ball and nylon inserts etc came from the hardware store.
It works like a dream, way smoother etc than the original that's still
on the passenger side. The original driver's side just got loose and
sloppy is all, so swapped it out with this experimental-one I'd fixed
up years before.

I guess the point is, you don't have to have a crank that's perfect
at both ends, just the splined end because you can fix the other. ;)

...if you want to, that is. ;)

I'll cut you a good deal, Ben. My A/C stuff for Red's rims... and tires.

Shoot...the boggers are bald as hell, I was gonna toss em. Besides...what are you gonna put them on? The Alcoas...that's a tad tougher, they were $350 a piece. I can get a new complete underdash system for under $300. Besides, I already have a complete AC system, I was just gonna piece in parts that are better than what I have.

Well, when I dream at night, my truck is a 4x4 off roading monster. Until then, they'd hang out in the garage next to those beloved hub caps of yours... :D

And who wants and underdash?! That's like putting a modern radio in place of the vintage one. No good.

Them is some 'spensive wheels, though!

This is the Bronco...remember, as long as it functions, I don't give a damn if it's original or not.

Yeah...that was 8ish years ago, they no longer have the exact style that I have, but the similar style is still right around $275-300 a wheel.

Well, when I load the engine bay up with the new 429 block, I'm going no A/C.

In 3 million years when that happens, I'll give the A/C to you.

(More dreaming...)

Not much more to add here than just saying again to make sure the handle or shaft isn't wore out. Or you could just use a small vice grip like I've seen on many trucks to roll your window up and down.

I know that's how you roll in your 77...hahahaha.

Another thought...if you don't plan on taking the door panel off any time soon or not planning on adjusting the window crank, throw a little JB Kwik on there. Ghetto fab, but it'll work...and you could get it off if you're careful.
