will someone please talk me out of changing my mind to instead build a 302. im strongly considering going 302 instead of 351W. and i know 302 parts makes 302 power. but at the same time 351w's basically use 302 parts. but i dont wanna change alot of stuff to get a 460.

and here are the main reasons im thinking bout goin 302.

302 parts and engines are more plentiful. im gonna need a engine to start the build as my Flareside is a DD and cant have it just sitting for a period of time.

I kinda wanna take the truck back to the stock size motor. that way i can say its got a 302 LIKE it came stock with. maybe some people will miss the LIKE part.

as much as i do love 351W a 302 is easier to do a maf swap for.

gt40 heads are easier to get to fit on 302's. no modding really needed.



so all in all. will yall give me reasons to stay 351W on my motor build.

351 is just a more torquey motor. The head bolts are bigger and make a better seal on the head gasket. You can bore out the GT40 heads to 1/2" and they'll bolt right on. 351 headers are easy to find. It's all bolt-on ready. I'd go 351 without batting an eye. Just get a short block or something.

yep. im gonna go 351W. i was 99% sure i was gonna stay 351W but just wanted some more people to chime in and tell me the pro's and cons. i just mainly wanted to start this thread just incase someone else is having the same indecision.

Actaully, I'm having the opposite decision..that's why the hee hee hee. GT40 heads won't need to be drilled if they came of a Lightning engine.

ive had several 302s in trucks over the years and have ben disapionted with every one of them. to me they just seem under powered and not good at all for towing.
 
302 stroker = 347 (overbored), 351W stoker = 393(overbored). GT40 heads + 1/2 drill bit, 302 cams fit in 351(firing order revision), headers cost about the same for either. I'd go 351 or 393 w/GT40 heads and have a bigger smile than the 302 could ever give with the same mods IMO.
