Will i need to drop my exhaust to do my oil pan gasket, and will i have to raise my motor? 88 F150 2wd 351 auto
You can't remove the pan completely without lifting engine but the gasket job CAN be done with minimal dissembly of the truck.
I imagine that if the gasket were to leave residue on the mating surface then one would hit it with a scotch-brite pad or something of the like... I would much rather try it that way than pull the engine, perhaps that's just me...Isn't it also true that in order to really do the job and make the new gasket LAST you need to clean/buff/scrape the gaket surface on the pan and the block thus meaning that the pan needs to be completely removed?

average prices were about $400-$450 to do it. that still seems a little high priced to me.
