Why a 400M?

400s are complete junk! They have oiling issues, thin cylinder walls, they over heat, blah blah blah

get a 385 series (429/460) motor and you'll be loving your truck even more everytime you get in it! The conversion motor mounts are cheap and the bellhousing is the same as well so no changing the trans.

I'm not gunna say I'm an expert, cause i'm not. But I lost the mains in my 400 and I swapped to a slighly upgraded 460, and I'll tell ya. That 460 smacks The he'll out of the 400

My 400 in my 78 went 319,000 Kms before it was worn out.

There are fixes to the oiling problems.

Just find one that hasn't been bored out if you plan to stroke it.

heck you dont need an expensive convertion kit to install a 460. if ya know what your lookin for you can do it with all ford parts

Just look at the numbers that the mighty TIM is getting out of him engines :) better then what I've seen come off of 460s before..
 
I say 351w Ive got a 460 and it sucks to find part and when i do they are pricey. I can rebuild 2 351s for what it would take to build one 460.

I haven't had a problem with the 460 pricing in my area... I guess it depends on the location of your residence

Just bought a 1977 1-ton dually for $300.00 all parts are there it has a 16ft steel flatbed with a headache rack debating on rebuilding the 400 or going bigger since its a 1-ton any suggestions?smiliegitrdone
