What makes a high boy a high boy ?

simple question that i don't know the answer to . seems like they have a factory 4 inch lift or something ? I am wondering can high boy springs etc. be used in a low boy or are frames different and all that ? So who has the info on the two rigs and what will fit and what will not ? I realize lifts are not that much money but if parts of other rigs your buds having lying around will get ya the same thing then thats always cool !

Hiboy is nothing more than a slang term which started with the 73-77 250's and now seems to encompass the 67-72 250's because they sat a little higher than the 77.5-79 250's. There's no factory lift. A 'hiboy' will have a divorced transfer case. The front cross member set up is a little different. And I believe the frame up front is narrower, like 33.25". As for springs...good question, not sure of the differences involved.

It depends who was using the slang term

Ford never use that term

Only owners or enthusiasts

Was the slang term Hiboy just given to the 3/4 ton trucks?Or was it given to the 1/2 and 1 ton trucks too?

3/4 tons...No 4x4 1 tons til 79...and half tons are barely trucks, right? HAHAHAHA

Where did the term 'hiboy' come from for the 30's roadsters. Any idea? Was it because the unfendered cars looked taller?

as stated above all high boys are 73-77 f-250 4x4's. NO FACTORY LIFT!!! rear springs are 2 1/2 inches wide ( won't fit 77.5 -79 ) front are 3inches just like the 77.5-79. frame width is different from the rear of cab back to the rear bumper ( narrower ). and had a divorced transfer case .

ok so why is it that you can run such a big tire on a hiboy truck ? Guys say they run 35s up to 37s on a hiboy and yet my 79 with a 3 inch body lift and trimmed fenders will barley clear 37s ! No i didnt do the body lift or trim the fenders both those were just stupid cutting good clean fenders and well i hate body lifts !

150 or 250? Possibility of sagging springs? What's your back spacing. I'm one of those that's running 37's...boggers no less. Although, I do have a body mount that is causing some lean, and clearance is getting a little tight.

If there is a story about a man who loved Fords then you have to read this man's biography.

after Dick Clark he is North America's oldest teenager

He ended up with Cancer and is beating it. I think he turned 75 recently.

I owe this man a lot from all he taught me about Bodywork

I helped him and his son on numerous vehicles

STreet rods,claissc fords, and domestics

Maybe it is sagging springs ! The front of my truck sits about 2 inches lower then the rear , but it looks like the rear has had a extra add a leaf installed !
I should just rip it all out and buy a lift lol !
