time will tell
I've put the axle back in the axle housing. This is what I did:
1A First I cleaned everything and wire brushed the flanges and brake assembly where it makes contact with surfaces that have anything to do with retaining oil.
1. I purchased this metal gasket that goes between the axle housing flange and the break backing plate
2. I put atv silicone sealant on both surfaces of this gasket
3. I put atv silicone sealant on the mating surface of the bearing seal (the outside edge . . . and on the inner surface of the axle housing.
4. I put some sealant on the outside surface of the seal (between the seal and the bearing retainer plate).
5. I torqued the whole thing down
6. I'm letting everything sit overnight. I'll let you know if it holds or not.
