What fan to run with super cooler?

I have had a super cooler for a while now, my 460 and super cooler came without a fan and shroud so I have been running it with an e fan for a while now, I am going to order a shroud for JBG and I am wondering what fan I should order to go with it, there are a ton of variations to choose from...

YOu want a E fan? ?
If so I say shoot for a Flex e lite black magic fan set up.

7 blade viscous ,......or with a clutch

no I have an e fan and want a mechanical, What diameter 7 blade? they rang from 15'' to 18'' I don't want one with a clutch.

You would require spacer to mount it though
so
How about a 7 blade fan (19 or 19.5 ") with a defective clutch (Marked D4TA-AA or D5TA-DA) ? ;)

I got a couple of those.

I would need to know the diameter of the water pump nose though

1/2" or 3/4"

ok in that case my neighbor may have a fan for me, he said it was a ford fan but it was so big compared to what bronco graveyard has I didn't think it would work, I'm going to try to get that from him in the next couple days. thank you for the clarification.

I'm ditching the e fan because it wore through a couple cores of my fairly new rad, my fault due to semi poor mounting, howeverthere is so little room between the giant rad and the 460 mounting it good would be a project, I don;t have any time on my hands to mess with it and a big wheeling trip on june 6th so I figure mechanical will be the way to go.

Fans

I run both fan types with my 460 but I don't have the behemoth radiator. I run the e-fan with a switch so when she starts to get a little warm (oddly enough, she hits close to 200 on a 190 stat when I go highway speeds) I'll flip her on...works like a charm.

I wouldn't think you would need a fan at all running at highway speeds. Either the e-fan is blocking the airflow through the radiator on the highway, or the radiator has some blockages from mineral deposits.

I wouldn't think I would either, but yeah sometimes it happens. You're probably right on the e-fan blocking things. I also don't run a shroud so that has something to do with it.

Odd in the fact that it should be running about 208*- 210*

I have to agree about your setup Charles-- it's fairly normal to run a little hotter than the thermostat is designed to run. I wouldn't worry too much about turning that efan on and off unless the temp starts to climb really high without any signs of slowing down.

That being said-- there should be no reason to have both types of fans pushing air through the radiator. If I were you, I'd remove one or the other because they're just creating excess drag like stated before.

I'll probably pull the e-fan then. If I do, a shroud's going on.

Really? Even with a 190 stat?

The T-stat is merely a switch..

190*F is just an opening point. A 195* T-stat is the norm for Ford engines

The engine runs much hotter..noted above.

Coolant (anti-freeze) not only keeps the mixture from freezing it also raises the boiling point of the mixture ..namely water = 212* F or 100* C

Any idea what the new boiling point is? Of course, it probably depends on the ratio of water to antifreeze...but a ballpark number?

Thanks Mil1ion

I seem to remember that each 1 psi increase in pressure above atmospheric increases the boiling point by 7 deg F.(But I won't bet on that number.)

Some GM products will get up around 218-220 before the e-fan even kicks on. So you've got some wiggle room. A 460 is notorious for running a little warm, so anything that will increase airflow across the radiator will help. Going down the road usually is enough airflow, but unfortunately you have to stop sometimes. You might get a smaller e-fan to help, and the size will not block natural airflow.
