Sorry I missed that thread. You'll be amazed at how a baby will change you're outlook on life. All for the better, I might add.

Very true! I LOVE the new truck. Just a few things I need to do after owning for two days...

  • new light bulb in one of the license plate sockets
  • check sensors for backup, he said they stoppped working a week ago
  • new drive belt (squeaky when cold and wet)
  • clean to MY standards
  • drive it

The biggest thing is the backup sensors (which arent really a big deal) and the light bulb. Ill take that LOL.

Anyone have any ideas on backup sensors. I have clicked the button inside, but it continues to stay off, so i check connections I guess

I believe the sensors are in a series (I think that's the right way to describe the circuit) meaning, if one goes bad they quit entirely. The trick is determining which one is the failure....

after reading, ill take a meter to them and check resistance on them.

Ill start with fuse, but I dont think that is it as that fuse also controls the heated seats, bsm, compass and they all work. then ill clean the connection at the tranny, and the connections at the sensors, then ill check resistance if none of that works and replace the faulty sensor(s). No big deal, ive never had reverse sensors before, just one of those things that irks you when it is supposed to work and it doesnt. The guy said they worked up until about a week ago. hoping just cleaning the sensors works

SOB!!!!!!!!!

Had a buddy who works for Ford tell me to send in a video of truck idling out of curiosity. So i did, and ill be dang if he said my new truck has the stupid cam phaser issue. I asked the guy about it, and I seriously dont think he knew about it at all.

So I am left with two options:

Now bear in mind I got a fully loaded lariat with only 76k miles for $14000.

1) Fix the issue for around $1200-$1500 (having my wife's uncle fix it as he is a ford mechanic), enjoy and drive it and only have 15500 in the fully loaded truck

-OR-

2)Just sell and find a different one and possibly get the issue.

I am so torn on what to do. I didnt want to buy a truck to have to fix, the Ranger was perfectly sound mechanically, but Im gonna need a new vehicle as I cant ride baby in the Ranger. We do have a Ford Fusion, but it gets enough miles put on it and i dont wanna drive that everytime we have to go somewhere.

What would ya'll do. truthfully. flip the truck or fix the truck? It didnt sound like this when I heard it, but that was before I found out about hot idle thing and it had been sitting when i looked for 30 minutes or so. the video really enhances it, it doesnt sound that pronounced as it does in video:

If I am putting the OEM ones back in, isnt it eventually going to get the same issue!? Will replacing the phasers truly get rid of the slight diesel sound?

not really, just sounds like a really mild diesel. i mean i didnt notice it till pointed out.

i was told before buying that if i heard knocking and it sounded like a tracotr to steer clear that it was phasers, but this truck didnt sound like that. runs super smooth. just has that mild diesel sound to it. I may be over paranoid,. going to drive around town and listen to a few others

You're over paranoid.

Mine has been doing that since I owned it. I bought it w/ 121k miles, and it currently has 156k miles. The previous owner said it had been doing it for 60,000 miles before that.

It's not the 'right' answer that a tech would give you, but I'd say, DRIVE IT!

smilieIagree Wife's Expedition did that when it was almost brand new. Sold it to a neighbor a year later, they drove it six years like that.

I stopped by Ford Dealership and had the Service mangager (with whom im good friends with) and a tech listen to it and said that that engine sounded good to them, but to get the castrol oil out of her (previous owner)!

Marquis is running exclusively Motorcraft synthetic blend. 180,000 miles and counting.
