Yo cowboys (I've always wanted to say that...)
Mark here from Scotland, yes Scotland, where we didn't have any Ford trucks made, so buying one wasn't that easy as they are limited to the ones the owners imported.
I recently sold my 1971 Cadillac Eldorado 8.2 to make way for another American car in the garage (though I'm not too sure the F100 will fit in my wee garage, so that may have proved futile).
Right about the truck:
Registered in Wisconsin in 1972
Ford F100 Custom 302 (4.9L) Carb V8
4-Speed Manual
141,000 miles
Very faded grey paint (especially on the bonnet, er, hood)
Despite the high millage that 302 runs like a champ.
It had a lot of work done on it by the previous owner, who intended to fully restore it to new condition but his wife said no!
Here is what was done:
Head gasket changed (radiator hose burst back in America and overheated)
Entire new exhaust system (rotted out due to being driven all through winter for almost 40 years)
New alternator
New belts
New water pump
New tyres
New brakes (drums, shoes, lines, greased up)
New clutch
Oil Change
Frame rust proofed (despite all the winter driving and salt it saw it isn't corroded at all!)
Small weld on fuel tank (had a drip drip drip leak)
So as you can see she'd has a whole lot of money spent on her, so I understand why the guy was almost in tears selling it to me for a price which just covered the repairs and no more. That's wives for you, can't live with em, can't live without em.
It recently passed a UK Safety Inspection but despite that it isn't 100% sorted yet.
Here is what I've got on my list to do:
Replace track rod ends (the steering isn't exactly what you'd call sharp!)
Change transmission fluid (no problems or noises, but want to be safe)
New wipers (that'll take me all of 1 minute)
MAYBE replace battery (seems a bit sluggish on cranking, even after the 100 mile drive home)
Thoroughly clean seats and floors (smells of tobacco and dust)
Despite saying the paint is faded, and BADLY burnt on the hood, I'm not going to get a respray, because she's a truck (not a Cadillac!) and I think the original paint suits her in a rugged sort of way.
Right, it's a nice sunny night, I've given it a pressure wash, so I think I'll head out, fill up with some gas, and go for a nice drive with the windows down.
Just me and my truck cruising down some country roads at 55.
Pitty she doesn't have a radio or I could complete the scene and put some Country&Western on!
Then again, when you have such a good voice as me, who needs music...
It's four in the mornin' and what's more the dawnin' just woke up, the WAAAANTING IN MEEEE!
Over and out.
